Is there any Kennedy out there who could mount a successful challenge to Kerry for the Democratic Senate nomination in Massachusetts?

What do you think, and who is it?

Note, it can't be Teddy.

The Kennedy name is almost magical in Massachusetts, at least it was at one time.

Or, are the Kennedy's in the twilight of their political dynasty?

I highly doubt it.  No Democrats in their right mind would challenge Kerry for it, anyway.

Why would a Kennedy mount a primary challenge against Kerry?  Why would anyone mount a primary challenge against Kerry? He may not be the most popular or the most powerful Senator anymore, but that's no reason to mount a challenge.

The only way John Kerry and Ted Kennedy will retire from the Senate chambers will be when they take the ride in the back of the hearse.

I'd like to see Marty Meehan as the next Senator from Massachusetts.

I can't see any reason why any one would challenge either Kerry or Kennedy for the Democratic senate nomination. They probably fit the profile of the state pretty well

Neither would go down to a Republican in a general. If Weld couldn't beat Kerry, I doubt any other Republican could

Or, are the Kennedy's in the twilight of their political dynasty?

They were at the twilight of their political career 20 years ago.

Could you elaborate on that?  That sounds like an interesting view.

He'll probably run again. If he doesn't, my guess would be Frank.

Frank is old.

Marty Meehan or Michael Capuano would be the best choices.

Ted Kennedy's unsucessfull run against Carter for the 1980 nomination sank the Good Ship Camelot. Never again could a Kennedy seriously seek the Presidency, because too much scandal has arisen.

We have Kenendy's who are caught sleeping with babysitters, caught possesing narcotics, and even being charged with murder. The "long arm of the Kennedy's" has grown so short it can never again reach the White House.

Why would a Kennedy mount a challenge to a member of their own family?

Oh, never mind Wink

Yes, Patrick is popular, in Rhode Island.  But who knows, maybe someday he'll move back to Massachusetts and make a Senate run, though not likely.

There is my former congressman, Joseph Kennedy. He retired from Congress in 1998 to run an environmental group of some sort. He's only fiftyish, so I imagine he could run. However, I would most like to see Markey or Frank. I would take exception to Lynch or Neal, and I hope Shannon O'Brien never tries to get back into politics.
