I have little to say on behalf of this bill that wouldn't also apply to the bill I sponsored in the Senate.

In lieu of an opening statement, I offer to the Assembly this PowerPoint presentation.

I'm happy to answer any questions.

I hope the Assembly will carefully consider the facts listed in the presentation in deciding how to act on this bill.

I'll be stating my brief opinion about the bill tomorrow.

Looking at the bill, even though I oppose marijuana legalization, taxing it is a good compromise. However, I support a plan where the tax increases at a fixed rate every year. Not yet sure how to vote on this Smiley

My main reservation about this bill is that it makes it legal for anyone to sell marijuana, which means the money will still be going to the same drug dealers we want to stop giving money to, only legally. My solution would be to require a license to sell marijuana, and one would need to apply and undergo a background check in order to get it. And cannabinoid products should be tested to ensure safety.

Debate will begin tonight. Since I sponsored the bill, the amendment I proposed has been added without objection. Any further amendments should be proposed as soon as possible.
