Address to the Nation

It is fitting, first, for me to express the sincere gratitude I owe to the people of this nation for their confidence and support at this unusual hour in the history of our republic. In other countries, in other parts of the world, the uncertainty that has dogged the late presidential contest might have been cause for violence and unrest. For two hundred forty years, our republic has distinguished herself by the peaceful transference of power from one administration to the next. I am profoundly honored by the opportunity to play my small part as an instrument of that proud tradition.

I am interim president. It is my job to keep the wheels of government turning until the will of the people may be known and the democratically chosen president arrives to take the helm. It would be inappropriate for me, in light of the prevailing indecision of the electorate, to use this office to force a partisan agenda upon the Atlasian people. Yet it is also my obligation to provide my country the benefit of my judgement, and to leave this government in as good or better condition than that in which I found it. Accordingly, while I will not be a partisan president, I will be an active president. I will employ the powers of this office to bring order and discipline to the executive branch, to correct existing oversights, and to ground our republic upon a solid foundation from which my successor may lead us to greater things.

I may be president only temporarily, but for now I am the head of state and I will do everything in my power to serve the Atlasian people with the dignity and wisdom befitting this office. That we may prosper,

Congratulations on becoming interim President--as your speech indicates by desiring to be active but not partisan it's hard to imagine too many better people for the role.

Slightly pedantic question I'd forgive myself for not getting a definitive answer to: are you number 39, or will the next one be 39 and you're numberless (unofficial 38.5)?

Also great work on National Archivist--an idea I supported last year. Castro came up with the name IIRC, and Kalwejt first introduced it in the Senate. I felt the Wiki Committee would be good, but...they were about as active as I am good at improvising metaphors.

Lastly I will make sure to remove all my things from the White House by Sunday. Until then I won't turn the television to maximum volume after 10PM.

On the wiki, I made Truman #39, and he's numbering his executive orders (well, executive order singular) beginning with 39, so I presume he's #39, and the next one will be #40.

I've been wondering this myself, so that makes two obsessive-compulsive policy nerds for the south ridge of Mt. Rushmore. Cranberry was interim president for about a month in 2014 and is listed as the 34th President on the wiki, so I believe I'm Number 39.

Indeed, Cranberry took over as president as there was a vacancy on the Presidency (as opposed to other cases in which Presidents resigned, with Tyrion being banned but not resigning) and we've always considered him as a full president.

It is traditional for the sitting president to initiate new members of the Order of the Star of Atlasia as their last official act before leaving office. That leaves me in a bit of a pickle, since nobody really knows when my term will end; accordingly, I've decided not to put off until tomorrow what can be done today and just sign this now.
