A total waste of time. Most of them ended up coming "home" anyway.

Her campaign of appealing the elites and minorities at the expenses of the white working class was great in Orange County, California. But Orange county has far fewer electoral votes than the Great Lakes where she lost big with the white working class.

hm, no....otherwise she would have done even worse.

this is more of a long-term project.

but yeah, i am disappointed about educated white women....who seem to have no problems voting for a misogynist patriarch.

Polling indicated they were winnable and common sense would suggest that they'd be the most vulnerable slice of the GOP coalition under a Trump candidacy. Turns out conventional wisdom didn't apply.

Still, I would rather keep some social justice planks and try to appeal to Republicans who'd be receptive to them than abandon that and go economics, economics, economics.

Interesting to see that those of us interested in identity politics tend to be strong Hillary supporters and those of us interested in economics seem to be the Bernie folk. No wonder Hillary had a more diverse coalition.

Not smart. She needed to reach out more to the working class small towns. There would have still been a huge swing in those places but maybe she could have tempered it. A lot of the swing had to do with people just staying home. People won't vote for you if you don't ask for their vote.

Waste of time, should've just abandoned them for Millennials, minorities, and economics entirely.

The only thing that would have kept OH and IA for the Democrats would have been hard Ag, Auto, and Coal subsidies.

not so sure midwest outsife of appalachia cares some much about coal?

otherwise: maybe showing "trump talking about bringing michigan car factories to texas" ads 24/7 would have been a boon.

The left made the mistake of calling non-Hillary supporters "deplorables" or racist, sexist, etc.  Not going to win anyone over that way.

Trump: These are all the things I'm going to do.  I'm going to do so many things you'll get sick of all the things.

Clinton: That guy is crazy, his followers are deplorable, and I have a vagina.

This is why Hillary Clinton lost.

even while i am not sure, that the deplorable thing was an intelligent idea....

the same people who accept effing every kind of groundbreaking and earth-scorching insult from their own candidate flipping out about this side comment...with clinton apologizing less than a day later, while trumps vows never to apologize...not even to his wife....seems like madness to me, imho.

double standard to the max.

The "deplorables" comment has come back to bite her.

Throughout the entire campaign Clinton tried very hard to appeal to GOP people & moderates. Remember the Dinner roast - All sensible Republicans are with her. The debates, TV interviews were about her. She didn't go hard on Minimum wage, Climate Change, Free Tuition etc & crafted a much more moderate tone.

The most surprising & stupid part for me was Clinton campaigned in Western Michigan counties like Kent the day before the election odd - Counties which Romney won 67% odd & Trump beat that number.

She could have campaigned for a higher turnout in Detroit IMO which would flipped Michigan.

How much of the GOP vote did she receive? I think historic lows - Not more than 2 or 3% at best. Trump energized his base & Hillary clearly failed?

Do you agree that this was an incredibly faulty strategy considering Republicans hate her more than anything?

Interesting to see that those of us interested in identity politics tend to be strong Hillary supporters and those of us interested in economics seem to be the Bernie folk. No wonder Hillary had a more diverse coalition.

It has been this way the whole time. Clinton, although she ran on a platform that was officially very progressive, intentionally deemphasized the economic aspects of her policies. She's naturally a third way type of Democrat, just like Bill and Obama. They've largely abandoned the traditional economic populism of the Democratic Party for technocracy, globalization, and identity politics with some social justice thrown in the mix. I believe this is a result of the demographics they represent - upper middle class and college educated Whites, and minorities. The former of these are notoriously fiscally moderate to conservative and socially conscious (shop Whole Foods, frequent Starbucks, practice yoga, anti-war, emphasizing inclusion, etc). Us Bernie supporters preferred his emphasis on economic issues. We loved his social justice values as well, but economics is simply the number one priority.

Bernie landslided Alaskan Native Americans, Hawaiian Asians, Washington Hispanics, and so on. In Alameda county California, Bernie's worst city was the rich white city of Piedmont, while he won the most diverse major city in the country, Oakland, that surrounds it.

Yeah, it was poor strategy to try to appeal to people that have disliked her for decades. She was never the kind of Democrat that could put those people in the Dem column.

I think she kind of got caught trying to run up the score, if she had shored up what needed to be shored up instead maybe things turn out differently.

Bernie was a much stronger candidate among Asian Americans (landslide in the most diverse state of Hawaii), Native Americans & was as good as Hillary among hispanics by the early part of the voting.]

The only demographic Clinton won was Blacks - Who vote 88% or 90% or 92% to the Dems? Any random guy, even a racist or a guy from Atlas would get 80% of the Black vote just because they are a Dem!

This argument is completely wrong!

She normalized Republicans when she implied there are some worthy of being called "sensible."

Of anything, this served to benefit GOP wins at the local and state level, and perhaps in Congress.

Agreed! This severely hurt Downballot candidates & helped the GOP win Senate & House races. I also didn't see her doing much for a Feingold or a Ross in the Senate, she should have campaigned hard for strong progressives too - It was all about her!

It is also hilarious that Clinton fans think "Conventional" wisdom says that she could win Moderate GOP votes? Really? Was there 1 Poll where she was winning 20-25% of the Republican vote? She was constantly under 10% in almost all polls & this was only going to go lower - At worse it was going to Johnson or was staying undecided.

And if Hillary fans failed to see the intense hatred, dislike & disdain Republicans had for her, then you need to rewatch the entire campaign again!
