Is the blue wall dead? It certainly doesn't exist in the classic sense anymore since the streak was broken in several states. For all future elections, will the formerly blue  states of Wisconsin, Minnesota, Michigan, Pennsylvania, and Maine become swing states permanently? Should we consider Ohio and Iowa lean or tilt R states? How will this change the electoral map? It seems, as most predicted, Arizona and possibly Georgia are trending left but far more states are trending Right.

States aren't "trending right".   It was a low turnout election.    I really don't think "trend" is a good word to use anymore.

I doubt it. To me, this looks like Carter '76 all over again. 2020 will be the first election where the entire millennial generation will be able to vote, and they overwhelmingly go Democrat.

Obviously this election made it clear that the idea that "walls" (for any party) are a useful political concept is nonsense. As for whether the trends in those particular states are permanent, it's too early to tell.

From everything I've seen, turnout was basically the same as 2012. You're going to need to come up with a new tactic to explain away this loss.

This election was basically the death rattle of the old white bigots than ran the country, Too many younger more diverse voters coming of age now.

This feels a lot like a mini 2008. The future seems to be dark, but there is just a flicker of light out there somewhere..

You do realize that's the same elitist and ridiculous narrative the left has been preaching this entire cycle...I don't know if you've heard....but Trump won.

Nah, the popular vote proves that it just sectionally changed and Hillary ended up like Dukakis after Jimmy, caught in the middle.

Look to Georgia, NC, and FL to relocate the wall to the coast from the Midwest.

Look to Arizona to be like California after '88 and ironically, get a border wall built after all!

But he didn't quite win.  The American people didn't elect Trump, they elected Hillary.  The electoral college elected Trump.

LMAO. That being said, the blue wall was never alive, so it can't be dead.

yeah anyone saying "low turnout election" should just stfu right now.

Yeah 272 fierwal was basically a bad concept that wasn't going to last. It seems like the map is opening up quite a bit on both sides, which for election watchers is fun.

Bulls**t. We already have over 125 million votes in and millions more have yet to be counted. We'll easily surpass 2012's vote total.

No, Pennsylvania is a Democratic stronghold and will be the Dems blue wall in 2018 when Casey is up.

It seems people are seeing 59 mil for each candidate and forgetting the third party candidates in considering total turnout, plus those votes remaining.

No, Pennsylvania is a Democratic stronghold and will be the Dems blue wall in 2018 when Casey is up.

The notion of a firewall is one you typically deploy when you are a losing an election and typically they collapse just like MO, VA fell through for the GOP in 2006 and CO/NC fell through in 2014.

It was foolish from the start to formulate an electoral college strategy around such a notion and it clearly cost Wisconsin where Hillary didn't even campaign and almost cost Minnesota.
