If this is the choice then I say we just go ahead and buy a giant syringe and euthanize the planet instead of holding an election
Why?

JIM EFFING JUSTICE. That's why.
Yes, you know his name (though perhaps not the middle one), but please explain what is wrong with him.

O'Malley would restore some of my faith in the Democratic party.

He's certainly a good, winnable choice that wouldn't be so far to the left to turn independents away.

Donald Extremist Right Wing guy with some Nazi tendencies beat Hillary moderate clinton soundly among independents.

Bernie left wing Sanders destroyed Hillary in the Dem primary among independents & pretty much every single Republican in GE head to head match among independents. I don't know who came up with incorrect & unfounded notion about independents voting for supposed moderates.

Billionaire. Sleeps in coal. Has no appeal to minorties(a key componenet of the dem party). If you want to win WV sure but dems will not turnout for this man.

Except one of the largest reasons Hillary didn't do so well was because of her flip flopping on the issues, not because she was a moderate. The primaries dragged her so far to the left in her desperate attempts to win votes that there was no coming back without looking like she was flip flopping again.

christ man O'MALLEY? The guy who got less than 1% in Iowa? The guy who gives the most mechanical answers I've ever seen? He's a total joker. Trump would make him mince meat.

and lol at people wanting Jim Justice, who is basically Trump with the right party affiliation. Look - If Justice somehow manages to push West Virginia out of the rut its been in for a long time that would be great (I obviously have my doubts), but he's in no way acceptable to most people in the democratic party, myself included, in a national election.

I'd love to see Sanders/Warren, but I doubt they'll run (especially Sanders), so I'll go with Harris. I'm legitimately concerned that it's going to end up being Kanye, though.

No Brian Schweitzer? Jon Tester? Stephen Lynch?

Schweitzer kinda took himself off the national stage with the 'gaydar' comment, but in a post-trump world, who knows?

I voted Warren, but would love to see someone like Schweitzer or Tester on the ticket.

To be a little bit fair to O'Malley because of the dumb way that the Democrats count their Caucus results we don't actually know just how badly he did in terms of the number of votes that he would have got - he certainly did badly but probably not quite as bad as that.  Although he's certainly not someone that they should go for - they need to look at the more populist-left wing in order to get a decent number of votes.

.....

You do realize that independents who voluntarily voted and/or re-affiliated to be able to vote in Democratic primaries =/= all independents who vote in the general election, right? Like, at all.

Bernie Sanders - Age is the obvious issue. Would definitely be a frontrunner if 10 years younger.
Kamala Harris - Don't know much about her actually; surprisingly old for a new senator. Could be one to watch.
Martin O'Malley - If Tim Pawlenty didn't run in 2016 then I don't think O'Malley will bother in 2020.
Al Franken - I don't mind him, but he perhaps represents too much the kind of liberalism that was rejected last week.
Elizabeth Warren - The fact that both houses of Congress are still Republican-controlled makes it more likely that she'll run. A good communicator but could easily be painted negatively by the Republicans.
Newsom/Booker/Castro/Murphy/insert young establishment figures - Newsom already feels like yesterday's man, Booker is awful, Castro is a lightweight and Murphy is a nonentity.
Kanye - No one would be surprised if he won the nomination would they?
Tim Kaine - Bland and too much of an insider.
Mark Cuban - Had to Google him. Probably not happening.

I don't understand why anyone would support Bernie over Warren at this stage? I mean is it literally just to try and prove that he could have won in 2016? He's going to be 79; and the GOP have a two foot oppo folder on him

Some back of the woods populist with left-wing rhetoric, and more appeal to poor whites and working class. Perceived to be a friend of the common man and not elitist and anti-rural. More moderate, rhetorically on social issues, though basically the same but disavows identity politics, into a much more class-based politics, and shys away from BLM to a message of social unity, and equality between all, less focused on protecting illegals and more about stopping illegal immigration but supporting immigration reform, and more understanding of the concerns of immigration, while valuing immigrants contributions to society.
