According to these estimates, Obama/Biden would still win the election, but with a smaller margin than in reality. Giuliani/Pawlenty would perform better than McCain/Palin in some states, especially in the Northeast and the Midwest, due to Giuliani's relative social liberalism and appeal to urban and suburban voters. However, they would also lose some support from the conservative base of the Republican Party, especially in the South and the West, due to Giuliani's moderate positions on issues such as abortion, gay rights, gun control, immigration, etc. Pawlenty, as a former governor of Minnesota, would not be able to balance the ticket as much as Palin, who was seen as a fresh and charismatic figure by some voters.
