discus your reasoning...

Edit:  The mute is only for the initial 2 minutes of the candidate's response to the question.

It was supposedly why he backed out of the virtual debate concept, so it's pretty likely. I'm not entirely sure though. I can see some desperate advisers begging him to consider it as a last-ditch effort to keep his campaign on life-support.

Considering his campaign was already complaining about the debate topics, I wouldn't be surprised if they're looking for an excuse to back out.

It's probably still slightly more likely than not that he does the debate, but it's a close call.

They also complained about Kristen Welker moderating.

LMAO, not only is this ridiculous because a leopard can't change its stripes (particularly this leopard), it would also be bad strategy for him because in an actual debate he'd get destroyed on the issues, particularly the coronavirus and health care.

Only the opening statements will be muted...the only part of the whole debate where Trump didn't bulldoze and bully Biden.

Way to go debate commission...are they really this stupid?

Unless I misread, I believe that the commission has agreed to mute the candidate every time his opponent is giving his initial response to every question.

I'm gonna say no, I think he wants an opportunity to spread the Hunter conspiracy to a large national audience.

Proclamation on on National Character Counts Week, 2020

Issued on: October 16, 2020

The foundation of any free and virtuous society is the moral character of its people.

...

Every opportunity to show consideration for another person is also an opportunity to build habits of kindness and strengthen our character.

...

Throughout this week, we recommit to being more kind, loving, understanding, and virtuous.

...

NOW, THEREFORE, I, DONALD J. TRUMP, President of the United States of America, by virtue of the authority vested in me by the Constitution and the laws of the United States, do hereby proclaim October 18 through October 24, 2020, as National Character Counts Week.  I call upon public officials, educators, parents, students, and all Americans to observe this week with appropriate ceremonies, activities, and programs.

I personally would prefer if they don't mute it. Trump hurts himself more when he interrupts people.

Maybe, maybe not. It would be awful for him from a strategic standpoint, considering he needs all the opportunities for a bump he can get.

Lean yes. But I'll restate what I said in another thread:

I don't think Trump has anything to lose in not doing any more debates. Him backing out like a chicken would be nothing compared to another historically awful debate preformance less than 2 weeks before Election Day.

Of course, I don't think his overall chances are affected regardless if there's a debate or not. But any hopes of "The Tightening" may be hampered by another bad debate

So, he's going to publicly confess, resign, and turn himself in?
