The real irony is that despite the absence of rules the customership there seems to be generally more pleasant due to a lack of trolls and asshole posters.

They have less people, and one could argue that the people that do make it over there tend to have certain attributes that make them less likely to cause trouble among themselves (but not others), but I don't know what those would be.

There is always a degree of problems a larger, open forum will have vs a smaller, closed forum.

All in all a very good place. An extension of original forum whenever it's threads run dry. It also has an increasingly separate cast of characters who offer an interesting take on politics Forum Style. Also fun to swear like a sailor and call assholes assholes without fear of moderators playing Nanny state.

The worst part about it, though, is every thread four-post remotely related to original forum is a whiny b**** fast. It's really reminds one of that one friend who can't stop from complaining about their ex within 90 seconds of getting together for drinks or dinner, even though the breakup was over a year ago. They're nice people in and of themselves, but you wanna grab them by the shoulders and shake them while yelling " Jesus Christ get over it already!"
