Any polls for DeWine vs. Cordray likely to drop soon?  We've gotten everything from FL-GOV to FL-SEN to IN-SEN to MO-SEN, yet nothing on Ohio...

We just got a C+ graded poll from Change Research earlier today. DeWine 45, Cordray 42. When they ask about the Libertarian and the Green, It's DeWine 43, Cordray, 43, Libertarian 6, Green 2. All online. Sort of junky, IMO. They only had Brown +4.

--

In more interesting news, the August Campaign Finance Reports dropped today.

August Filing

Cordray: $1.89m, $7.19m COH
DeWine: $2.02m, $11.6m COH

Dettelbach: $699k, $4.03m COH
Yost: $336k, $3.41m COH

Clyde: $238k, $1.75m COH
LaRose: $234k, $1.59m COH

Sprague: $101k, $463k COH
Richardson: $140k, $1.21m COH

Space: $154k, $998k COH
Faber: $135k, $1.14m COH

Rob Richardson is a MACHINE.

Ehhhh, Richardson has like no presence whatsoever in Franklin County Sad

That’s okay. He’s evidently the only statewide with ANY presence in Montgomery County...

We’ll see, I think right now Sprague is looking like this cycle’s Mary Taylor.

What does that mean? The one Republican who makes it over? I've thought that in the past myself -- and the analogy is there since Taylor basically only won because Ohio wouldn't elect a Black woman statewide even in 2006 -- but we've elected charismatic Black men statewide before at this point, and Richardson has an absolute mountain of cash compared to Sprague. I'm not saying he's a lock by any means, but I wouldn't write him off.

Also, I'm feeling pretty confident that Donnelly will win a spot on the OHSC, so we'll be back to 1/7 as opposed to 0/7/. Stewart could win, it's not a bad name, but DeGenaro might be an even better name. It's funny, a friend of mine used to clerk for a Democrat on the OHSC back in the day, and he was really griping about how ODP has next to no judicial strategy other than to run people with good Irish names. Back in October, he was insistent that Pillich and Schiavoni should have run for OHSC. Having legislators run for the OHSC is a bit out of place these days, but it sure used to be common. I thought he was crazy at the time, but honestly he might have a point.

Love that idea twice over. Firstly, because the prison industrial complex is a goddamn nightmare and secondly, because creative uses of state executive power gets my juices going.

If DeWine does win let's all remember this when Jr gets indicted.

Saw a Cordray sign next to a Renacci sign the other day. Not actual news, just thought it was interesting.

Cordray did well and got in some sick burns, meanwhile DeWhine was yelling "RAPE KITS!" whenever he didn't have an answer to a question, also anything he didn't get done was somehow Cordray's fault.

I'd say this was Cordray's best moment:

Some other good ones:

It's the only way to win statewide, IMO. There are only 5 Clinton Republican state house districts in the state, and while Brown will carry all of them, Cordray will likely only carry 3, and we probably only pick up 3 to 4.

Sadly he's not even the craziest legislator in southwest Ohio by far. Imo Ohio's worst legislator is John Becker, who said that the 11 year old girl who got tased by police deserved it and so do "punks" who were shot and killed by police, including Tamir Rice. He also said that Massachusetts should be expelled from the union for legalizing gay marriage back when that happened. And back in 2015, he said this in his horrible little newsletter "The Becker Report":

YEESH. No wonder he was once voted "least compassionate" by his colleagues. Candice Keller, meanwhile, went on a white power radio show (she claimed she didn't know that) and generally says some off the chain stuff. And Niraj Antani said that kids should be allowed to bring long guns to school. Finally, we had one dude who got arrested because he passed out drunk with a loaded firearm in the McDonald's drivethru and refused to resign; he got primaried out, luckily. This is just a nutty region of Ohio. Sadly, Antani is the only one who has much of a chance of losing in November.

Keller *could* go down. Very outside chance nonetheless.

The Dispatch is back to it's Republican hackery: after endorsing Zack Space over Keither Faber, they've endorsed both LaRose and Yost in the SOS and AG's race, respectively.

Really does go to show just how loathes Faber is, though.

Doubtful, but possible. He might have a home-field advantage. Not that these endorsements matter, but it really grinds my gears how the Dispatch has been playing political games these past few years.

Didn't Yost's campaign hire someone from the Dispatch?

Yeah, that (or just a general uptick in Democratic support) seems to be his main hope.

Jack Cera's opponent dropped out of the race due to "family issues," so now he is running unopposed. It's too late for Republicans to replace their guy on the ballot or mount a write in campaign for someone. Safe D->Safer D
