Just goes to show why chauvinism is named after a Frenchman.

Good thing that no American has ever claimed that we're better than anyone else.

Nothing new here. Chirac angered Finnish people just two weeks ago by claiming that Finnish food is awful. Sad He is a total asshole.

Not only is Finnish food awful, Finnish people get offended too easily.

Obviously it is better to be a French worker than a British worker.. conversely Britain is a better place to live if you are an owner.  Two sides of the same coin, of course.

People who always have to make it a point to say they're better than others are usually inferior.  That's my experience at least, and this is no exception.

France must be experiencing a real crisis of confidence that Chirac must go around making unprovoked attacks against other countries, like Great Britain and Finland.

If you're great, you don't have to say so.  People know it.

probably true in Chirac's case, but what about all the Americans (and Richius) who constantly rag on Europe?

Precisely - America is full of boosters, while the place itself is repulsive and unlivable.  If anything the typical American is even more puffed up with baseless pride than the typical Frenchman.   Though admittedly the American can say his ruling class gets to beat up on the rest of the world, it is hard to see how that is something for the commonter to be proud of.  The Frenchman at least has a good lifestyle to be proud of.

No, I disagree with you.  You seem to believe that toil is necessary for the simple yoeman to be 'happy'.  I suggest that a life of leisure is just as good, if not better.

Isn't a Yeoman the guy or (usually) gal who fetches papers and coffee for the Starship Captain? Tongue

A Yeoman was a name for a sort of smallholder that developed from the Freemen (as opposed to Cotters/Villians/Serfs) at the fag end of the feudal system.
It might surpise you to know this, but there aren't exactly many of them still around.
