It's going to have to be someone with a lot of name recognition right off the bat, a lot of money, going to have to be middle-of-the-road on many issues, and the other two candidates have to be extremely unlikable.

Washington and Tyler were the only Presidents to have no official affiliation during all or part of their presidencies. Even then, Washington was known to hold mostly Federalist positions while abhorring the idea of organized political parties while Tyler was expelled from the Whig Party for basically being a Democrat who became a Whig in response to Jackson opposing nullification. Partisan Presidents are part of the routine, at least for being elected.

While Trump did not run as third party, he definitely holds unorthodox views.

We never have. We did have two independents (Washington and A. Johnson) but never a third-party president.
