Incumbent President Dave Leip had a successful presidency as an Independent, but now he's stepping down, leaving another Atlas poster to run the country. God help us. Anyway from LLR's thread (which he couldn't bother to continue).

How This Works

First, you pick a character by submitting some basic information (this is an example):

Name: Lisa Rockowitz
Age: 43
Party: Democrat
Location: New York, NY
Position: New York State Assemblywoman 2003-11, US Representative 2011-p. (make it realistic - R victories in NY, CA, HI and D victories in AL, UT, and TN and others will be frowned upon)
Ideology (in Political Matrix score): S: -6.66 E: -6.66

Then, we run the campaign. "But, LLR, how does that work?" You ask.

First, after both parties get a certain amount of candidates (6, 8, or 10 depending on interest), various Atlasians can chip in endorsements, which will be based on post count.

1 point: 50-500
2 points: 500-1000
3 points: 1000-5000
4 points: 5000-10000
5 points: 10000-30000
6 points: 30000+

Based on those points, you can receive tokens, which will be spent on campaigning. I'll get into more details on that after we start, but you get more tokens based on how you perform, and you, of course, accumulate delegates as well.

Sign up below, please!

New: These are the extra rules.

James Gillot 13%
Emily Peebleton 12%
Susan Park 12%
Lisa Rockowitz 8%
Jefferson Galloway 7%
Bobby Jones 5%

National Republican Primary
Daniel Conway 26%
Samuel O’Houlihan 18%
Laura Rummel 18%
Ethan Berkowitz 16%
Abraham Washington 12%

Iowa Democratic Caucus
Brandon Korner 21%
James Gillot 14%
Jefferson Galloway 11%
Susan Park 11%
Emily Peebleton 10%
Bobby Jones 10%
Tsumiki Harmon 6%
Lisa Rockowitz 0%

Iowa Republican Caucus
Daniel Conway 24%
Samuel O'Houlihan 15%
Ethan Berkowitz 15%
Laura Rummel 15%
Abraham Washington 8%

New Hampshire Democratic Primary
James Gillot 14%
Susan Park 14%
Brandon Korner 13%
Emily Peebleton 12%
Bobby Jones 11%
Jefferson Galloway 8%
Lisa Rockowitz 5%
Tsumiki Harmon 0%

New Hampshire Republican Primary
Ethan Berkowitz 24%
Daniel Conway 19%
Samuel O'Houlihan 17%

Note: Polls at this point are just based on what I think name recognition would be (according to the formula). And please do join this. Just because polls are out doesn't mean you can't.

Name: Jefferson A. Galloway
Age: 45
Party: Democrat
Location: Jackson, Mississippi
Position: Public Defender in Harrison County, Attorney General of Mississippi 2004-2008, Governor of Mississippi 2009-present
Ideology (in Political Matrix score): S: 1.50 E: -6.50

Born to a single-mother in rural Harrison County, Mississippi, Jefferson grew up in close to abject poverty and was the first high school graduate in his family in three generations. After graduating from Auburn University, Galloway became a public defender representing many lower and working class individuals in his career. In 1993, Galloway married Claudia Meredith, granddaughter of famed civil rights leader James Meredith, the couple have two sons and a daughter.

In 2003, Galloway started a grassroots campaign for Attorney General of Mississippi. Campaigning in barbecue restaurants, gun ranges, and churches, Galloway was able to narrowly beat out primary opponent Jim Hood. Galloway was elected in a squeaker of an election against his Republican opponent  in 2004 and served a single term marked with a number of civil rights advancements for the state.

In 2008, with the support of both Black and White church groups as well as organized labor in Mississippi, Galloway made a run for the Governor's mansion. Challenged only by a marijuana rights activist, Galloway was easily nominated by the state's Democratic Party. Campaigning once again in his unorthodox style, Galloway was able to win the gubernatorial race in the best showing for a Democrat in twenty years.

Main issues: Better funding for public education, strike down of voter ID laws, better infrastructure spending, single-payer healthcare, fair trade, union rights.

I endorse Jefferson A. Galloway for President, as he will prioritize policies that will help strengthen the Atlasia working class, fight for fair progressive taxation, universal healthcare, labor laws that advantage the worker and fight to uphold civil liberties.

O'Houlihan's platform consists of fighting for a reasonable raised minimum wage of $10 an hour, an end to all trade deals that plague our nation, a simpler, fairer tax code with lower tax rates for both corporations and incomes. O'Houlihan is a strong champion of rebuilding our infrastructure through a new jobs bill. And, O'Houlihan is a crusader in protecting the 2nd amendment at all costs.

Felt bad there were no Republicans, so this is as far right as I could stomach. (If more Republicans join, I am going to switch to the Dems so I can battle it out with SG) Wink

Name: Brandon Korner

Age: 54

Party: Democratic

Location: Madison, Wisconsin

Positions: Wisconsin State Assemblyman (1987-1991), Wisconsin State Senator (1991-1995), Lieutenant-Governor of Wisconsin (1995-2003), Governor of Wisconsin  (2003-2011), US Senator from Wisconsin  (2013-present)

Ideology: E:-7.23 S: -6.61

Once a upon a time, Korner was considered a fringe far-left candidate.  A fierce supporter of universal healthcare, raising the minimum wage and overturning Citizens United, he was able to position himself as the champion of the left in Wisconsin, leading to a meteoric rise in Wisconsin state politics. After serving three terms in the State Assembly, he won a seat in the State Senate.

After just one term in the Senate, he was approached by the Democratic nominee for Governor. The man was a veteran US Congressman who wanted a young progressive on the ticket with him. The ticket won Wisconsin's 1994 Gubernatorial election despite the Republican wave. The two were re-elected in 1998, before Korner made an effort at taking the top job for himself.

Facing a tough bid against a popular Republican, Korner overcame a primary challenge from a Third Way Democrat to win the nomination, before defeating the Republican to win the governorship. In his first term, Korner pursued his first pet goal of a massive infrastructure build. After some teething problems (which nearly forced a recall election), the project was a massive success, leading to his landslide re-election in 2006. He was considered a a top-tier candidate for the 2008 nomination, before declining to run. He was also a favourite to win a third term in 2010, but declined, stating a desire to leave public life, at least for a time.

However, the election of Ron Johnson to the Senate changed mind. In 2012, he ran for the US Senate, and the primary field was essentially cleared for him. He was then promptly elected to the Senate in 2012, rising on his popularity as a Governor. After persistent calls for him to do so, he has finally announced his candidacy for the Democratic nomination in 2016, largely relying on pointing out the relative inexperience of his opponents as well as his own proven track record.

We need more Republicans! If you really want to be a Democrat, then sure you can, but Republicans are needed. We only have two right now.

Extra: I would prefer that others wait to endorse until I start the first turn the day after Christmas.

Name: Ethan Berkowitz
Age: 50
Party: Republican
Location: Portland, Maine
Position: Maine State Senator, (2003-2012) US Senator from Maine (February 2013-)
Political Matrix Score: E: -1.50, S: 5.45

Senator Berkowitz is a strange breed of Republican. He's been known to support development projects and stimulus spending, but is more well-known as a cultural conservative. He's taken hardline positions on immigration, abortion, campaign finance, and policing. He's basically Donald Trump if Donald Trump cleaned up his Twitter act.

A lowly state Senator for many years, Berkowitz saw his chance to move up in the world when Senator Collins was forced to resign over a corruption scandal. He used his speaking ability and mastery of the dogwhistle to go from a longshot candidate to the Junior Senator from Maine.

Name: Susan Park
Age: 46
Party: Democratic
Location: Tysons, Virginia (Campaign HQ in Arlington, Virginia)
Position: US Senator from Virginia (2012 to current), Virginia Lieutenant Governor (2003 to 2012), Virginia State Senate (1999 to 2003), Fairfax County Board of Supervisors (1991 to 1999)
Political Matrix - E: -4.77, S: -2.41

Born to a wealthy and influential Korean-American family in the affluent suburbs of Washington DC, Susan Park skillfully leveraged her family's ties to the large Korean-American diaspora in Northern Virginia to land her first elected position at the young age of 21. Since then, Susan has used her wit and charisma to rise up the political ladder all the way to US Senator. Can Senator Park move up to President next?

Name: Bobby Jones
Age: 65
Party: Democratic
Location: McDowell County, WV
Position: WV State Senator (1992-2010) WV senator (2010-)*After Senator's Byrds death.
Political Matrix: E: -4.84, S: +0.43

Bobby Joness was born into a poor white trash community in McDowell county, his father and forefathers miners who laborerd in the mines, while recieveing nothing from coal companies for their hard work, all help his father received was from the union, his father would say.

Bobby Jones started as a miner, and a union stewared and labourer advocate, for better pay, good wages, and a stand against the coal companies. He got involved in politics to stop the bleeding of his county, and his state, and has promoted infrastructure, and the building of manufacturing in struggling areas of his state, to help his state.

He has broken with the orthodoxy of the Democratic Party, calling it a neo-liberal party, and is against the coastal elitism of the party, is an advocate of gun rights, and has stated that he will vote against very free trade deal in congress, and rip out every free trade deal, he opposes further illegal immigration to the contury, and has stated that he is primarly focused on politics for the working class, and a patriotic union man, opposing RTW, and advocates the repeal of Taft-Hartley and all other anti-union laws.

He is more moderate on cultural issues of the day, and focuses on helping the poor, calling for everyone to be guaranteed a job, and have the government create much needed welfare state for the poor, and job investment for the working class, he opposes racial politics, and opposes affirtive action, saying you're if you're poor,  white or black, and has stated feminism is good and well, by doesn't help jack shyte if the woman was born into poverty.

Name: Laura Rummel

Age: 45

Party: Republican

Location: Ashland, Wisconsin

Positions: U.S. Representative from Wisconsin's Seventh District (1995-1999), President and CEO of the Cato Institute (1999-2003), U.S. Senator from Wisconsin (2005-)

Bio: Laura Rummel grew up in suburban Ashland, in a lower-middle-class family with four siblings. She became involved in local politics while still enrolled in Northland College, becoming Chairwoman of the Ashland County Republican Party at age 22. She ran for Congress against longtime incumbent and supposedly "unbeatable" Dave Obey in 1994, and after running an incredible retail campaign defeated the powerful Obey by only 200 votes to become the youngest person in Congress, and one of the youngest federal legislators ever. She won reelection in 1996 in a fifteen-point blowout despite President Clinton carrying the Seventh District comfortably, but did not seek a third term, and left office to head the libertarian Cato Institute at the tender age of 29. After four years at the helm of the think tank, she resigned to run against Senator Russ Feingold in 2004, and closed a double-digit deficit by crisscrossing the state to beat the progressive rock star 51-47. She defeated Feingold again in a 2010 rematch, by a much larger 54-43 margin.

Ideology: Senator Rummel is a libertarian Republican. She has been a consistent skeptic of U.S. intervention abroad, and has gained a national following as a proponent of decriminalization of marijuana. She has also worked closely with her fellow Badger Stater, Paul Ryan, on entitlement reforms, and has been the leading advocate for his fiscal proposals in the Senate since he began them in the mid-2000s. However, through her career she has been willing to compromise in order to get things done, and was a strong and public backer of the "Gang of Eight" immigration bill. Rummel is running on a platform of tax cuts and reform, foreign pragmatism, and reform of the criminal justice system.
