due to age/health concerns and a still sluggish economy, ronald reagan decides not to seek reelection in 84.

to prevent a potentially brusiing primary, reagan immediately endorses george bush.  bush chooses new york congressman, jack kemp, as his running mate.

on the democrat side, a nasty fight between gary hart and walter mondlae allows john glenn to take the high road and steal the nomination.

glenn chooses texas senator, loyd bentsen as his running mate.

how would have a bush/kemp vs. glenn/bentsen matchup shaped up?

bush/kemp: 51%, 284 EVs
glenn/bentsen: 49%. 254 EVs
