If Donald Trump went to Vietnam rather than getting medical deferments, what would he have been like today?

Maybe...but I'd imagine he'd get out after his 3-4 years of serving(likely as an officer) and gone about his budding career in New York real estate.

He would still be elected president in 2016, but would have won the PV by at least 3% and would have won Minnesota, Maine, Nevada, New Hampshire, Colorado, and probably Virginia in addition to his RL electoral map. Having served in the military (it would have been as an officer, obviously) would have put a very serious blow on arguments that he had no experience.

It may also have molded him speak more professionally while retaining his blunt persona.

Rich boy soldier who gets cushy assignments and hangs in the back of the unit. Likely gets a minor injury a few months into his tour of duty and gets pulled out of the field with a purple heart and a non-combat assignment. From there, his career likely follows a similar trajectory, except he never shuts up about how he's America's greatest hero.

Much quieter, sessile, and about six feet down.

He would have been fragged, no question.

...I have never read something more absurd in my life, unless you are implying that Trump would've become a flag officer, which would be even more absurd.

The Armed Services are effective in destroying narcissism. He would be a very different person if he managed to avoid getting fragged or court-martialed.

Then he would have been elected with 65% of the PV and a 538-0 electoral sweep. Believe me. Because we would have won the entire Vietnam War big league. We only lost the war because of low-energy losers on the field and political hacks in DC that did not have a clue. A winner like Trump would have beaten the hell out of Ho-Chi-Minh. It would have been terrific.

What would Donald Trump have gotten court-martialed for?

I feel like Donald Trump is basically Neidermeyer from Animal House.  His men would have fragged him.

Gets a cushy gig in Saigon, sees no combat, and is out within a year. Spends the entire time with Vietnamese prostitutes.

Either gets fragged, killed by the enemy, or his personality is totally altered.

Certainly Trump wouldn't have taken that jab at McCain.  He might still call him a loser or something over politics, but a veteran Trump wouldn't say McCain was "not a war hero" if he served any time in the military at all, regardless of combat experience.

Agreed. Trump's blatant disrespect of the military is disgusting and hypocritical.

Even more disgusting are the people who pretend to be such strong supporters of the military but who excuse any Trump behavior and attack McCain, the Khan Family, etc.
