By my account there are 7 counties in Texas that are dry:

Borden, Collingsworth, Hemphill, Kent, Martin, Roberts and Throckmorton.

Borden - population 651, (in the central plains, south of Lubbock
Collingsworth - population 3,057 (On the western border with Oklahoma in the panhandle.
Hemphill - population 3,807 (just north of Collingsworth)
Kent - Population 808 (in the central plains, south of Lubbock)
Martin - Population 4,799 (in west Texas)
Roberts - Population 929 (in the panhandle, just west of Collingsworth)
Throckmorton - Population 1,641 (West of Fort Worth)

That is a total of 15,692 people, just a little bit more than Hutto, a small town north and east of Austin.

I don't really see how people are limited to access to alcohol at least in Texas by the current policy. I think we should keep the local option since it's not a significant impediment to the purchase of Alcohol. Even in the dry counties, they have access to a neighboring wet county.

Any and all entities in possession or that will come into possession of an alcohol license henceforth shall have the sole responsibility to determine the hours during which said entity serves alcohol, from a minimum of 0 hours to a maximum of 24 hours per day.

I think offering this kind of freedom to business owners who choose to serve alcohol is a great thing to include. If a business wants to serve alcohol at 4am on a Tuesday, and they somehow make a profit from this, who are we to stop them from doing so? It's a great way to entice businesses into investing in locations in the South, especially in large vacation destinations.

I think this is a decent bill that will grant business owners more power to conduct their business, without any major negative consequences. I will support this bill.

I do not approve of this proposed law, but I am not issuing a veto threat as I want to see how the Chamber votes first. Personally I think localized areas should be able to do whatever they want and should not have to be told what to do by our southern government.

I propose the above amendment, retaining the local option but erasing laws on time of day and sunday sales in the south.

Technically now that we have a new speaker and Chamber this bill has no sponsor, anyways.

Well then we have to kill all the Leinad bills retroactively and kill the AZ bills--I don't think that's a good idea.

Governor dfwlibertylover has just contacted me asking for all bills without a sponsor to be tabled. I have since become the sponsor of the two newest bills. In order to prevent further conflict within this bill, I will take over as sponsor.
