I want to make it clear that I am vehemently opposed to the repeal of this clause of the Northern Symbols Act. Harambe's passing is something that should be remembered, and his life should be commemorated in full glory.

I want to thank the assembly for debating this bill. I propose repealing the official primate from the list of Northern symbols. Gorillas are not naturally found in our region. There are only a few specimen and they come from outside the region. I don't think it's appropriate to have a primate in the regional symbols list.

Poirot, Thanks for your input. I am neutral and undecided on this issue as of now.

I personally don't see an issue with memorializing Harambe and therefore don't see a need to repeal this act.  Though it is true that gorillas are not native to the region, Harambe was a beloved resident who lost his life in an unfortunate circumstance.  There are plenty of other opportunities for animals and otherwise to be used as other regional symbols as well (i.e. many 'native' things).  I believe we can include Harambe alongside an official bird, flower, etc.

After much consultation and from fellow Assemblyman Drew, I am now in favor of the idea of keeping Harambe alongside another official bird, flower, etc, which means it'll be a no vote on the repeal of Harambe as the Official Primate.

Without objection, I move that voting be closed, as all members have voted.

The bill has failed.
