ExtremeRepublican gave me an idea. What is your history for rooting interest in championship games (or series), going back as far as you have followed the sport? I will do mine in other sports, but will start with Super Bowls.

2016: Panthers (v. Broncos) L
2015: Patriots (v. Seahawks) W
2014: Seahawks (v. Broncos) W
2013: Ravens (v. 49ers) W
2012: Patriots (v. Giants) L
2011: Steelers (v. Packers) L
2010: Saints (v. Colts) W
2009: Cardinals (v. Steelers) L
2008: Giants (v. Patriots) W
2007: Bears (v. Colts) L
2006: Seahawks (v. Steelers) L
2005: Eagles (v. Patriots) L
2004: Patriots (v. Panthers) W
2003: Buccaneers (v. Raiders) W
2002: Patriots (v. Rams) W

Super Bowl Record: 8-7

Feel free to do your Super Bowl record or any other sport.

If the Steelers are in it, I'm for them, if the Patsies, Ratbirds or Raiders are in it, I'm against them.  I don't care who wins the other games.

In Australia, "rooting" means intercourse, so what exactly is this?

Bolded teams I rooted for, green for victories, red for losses. This is as far back as I can remember, although I know I at least watched some Super Bowls before this, since I definitely remember being horrified, horrified as a nine year old, not even noticing Janet Jackson's wardrobe malfunction.

Born in the mid-1990s, sports memory goes back to the early-2000s.
NFL (5-10 record, 5-8 when I legitimately care):
2017: Falcons (vs. Patriots, L)
2016: Broncos (vs. Panthers, W)
2015: Patriots (vs. Seahawks, W)
2014: Broncos (vs. Seahawks, L)
2013: Ravens (vs. 49ers, W)
2012: Patriots (vs. Giants, L)- FAIRLY NEUTRAL
2011: Steelers (vs. Packers, L)- FAIRLY NEUTRAL
2010: Colts (vs. Saints, L)
2009: Steelers (vs. Cardinals, W)
2008: Patriots (vs. Giants, L)
2007: Colts (vs. Bears, W)
2006: Seahawks (vs. Steelers, L)- I messed this up in the other one, because I would be the opposite if that matchup happened today
2005: Eagles (vs. Patriots, L)
2004: Panthers (vs. Patriots, L)
2003: Raiders (vs. Buccaneers, L)

College Football (using seasons, not years of the game) (6-5, 3-3 in the era when I have really cared):
2016: Alabama (vs. Clemson, L)
2015: Alabama (vs. Clemson, W)
2014: Oregon (vs. Ohio St., L)
2013: Auburn (vs. Florida St., L)
2012: Alabama (vs. Notre Dame, W)
2011: Alabama (vs. LSU, W)
---Before this point, I was only a casual CFB fan and would root for whoever I picked in my bowl contest---
2010: Auburn (vs. Oregon, W)
2009: Alabama (vs. Texas, W)
2008: Probably Florida (vs. Oklahoma, W)
2007: Ohio St. (vs. LSU, L)
2006: Ohio St. (vs. Florida, L)

CBB (7-7):
2017: Gonzaga (vs. UNC, L (reluctantly))
2016: Villanova (vs. UNC, W)
2015: Duke (vs. Wisconsin, W)
2014: Connecticut (vs. Kentucky, W)
2013: Michigan (vs. Louisville, L)
2012: Kansas (vs. Kentucky, L)
2011: Butler (vs. Connecticut, L)
2010: Duke (vs. Butler, W)
2009: Michigan St. (vs. UNC, L)
2008: Kansas (vs. Memphis, W)
2007: Probably Florida (vs. Ohio St., W)
2006: Probably Florida (vs. UCLA, W)
2005: Illinois (vs. UNC, L)
2004: Georgia Tech (vs. UConn, L)
I remember the 2002 and 2003 tournaments, but I must have lost interest when Duke (my childhood team) lost, because I don't have any firsthand recollection of the ends.

MLB (6-8):
2016: Cubs (vs. Indians, W)
2015: Royals (vs. Mets, W)
2014: Royals (vs. Giants, L)
2013: Cardinals (vs. Red Sox, L)
2012: Tigers (vs. Giants, L)
2011: Cardinals (vs. Rangers, W)
2010: Rangers (vs. Giants, L)
2009: Phillies (vs. Yankees, L)
2008: Phillies (vs. Rays, W)
2007: Rockies (vs. Red Sox, L)
2006: Probably Cardinals (vs. Tigers, W)
2005: White Sox (vs. Astros, W)
2004: Cardinals (vs. Red Sox, L)
2003: Don't remember
2002: Giants (vs. Angels, L)

NBA (6-8):
2017: Cavaliers (vs. Warriors)
2016: Cavaliers (vs. Warriors, W)

2006: Mavericks (vs. Heat, L)
2005: Pistons (vs. Spurs, L)
2004: Pistons (vs. Lakers, W)
2002+2003: Don't remember
2001: Sixers (vs. Lakers, L)

NHL (2-3):
2017: Predators (vs. Penguins)
2016: Penguins (vs. Sharks, W)
2015: Lightning (vs. Blackhawks, L)
2014: Rangers (vs. Kings, L)
2010: Flyers (vs. Blackhawks, L)
2006: Hurricanes (vs. Oilers, W)

College Baseball (something I got into more recently) (2-2):
2016: Coastal Carolina (vs. Arizona, W)

NBA Finals:(Green if the team i rooted for won , red if the team i rooted for lost, and winner will be on left)

2003: Spurs vs Nets
2004: Pistons vs Lakers
2005: Spurs vs Pistons

2006: Heat vs Mavs
2007: Spurs vs Cavs
2008: Celtics vs Lakers

2009: Lakers vs Magic
2010: Lakers vs Celtics

2011: Mavs vs Heat
2012: Heat vs Thunder
2013: Heat vs Spurs

2014: Spurs vs Heat
2015: Warriors vs Cavs
2016: Cavs vs Warriors

Reason I rooted for warriors in 2015 and not 2016 is cause lebron already won the title before and in 2016 I began to dislike the warriors

So for NBA im : 9-5

Superbowl:

2006: Steelers vs Seahawks
2007: Colts vs Bears
2008: Giants vs Patriots
2009: Steelers vs Cardinals
2010: Saints vs Colts
2011: Packers vs Steelers
2012: Giants vs Patriots
2013: Ravens vs 49ers
(was pretty nuetral about this one but since former duck star Lamicheal James was on 49ers i rooted for them)
2014: Seahawks vs Broncos
2015: Patriots vs Seahawks
2016: Broncos vs Panthers

So Im 4-7 for superbowls

this year i am

2017: Falcons vs Patriots

Who I rooted for at the time, not in hindsight

2016: Clemson (W)
2015: Clemson (L)
2014: Ohio State (W)
2013: despised both, but if forced to pick, Auburn (L)
2012: Notre Dame (L)
2011: LSU (L)
2010: Oregon (L) - at this point I stopped just knee-jerk cheering for the SEC every time
2009: Alabama (W)
2008: Florida (W)
2007: LSU (W)
2006: Florida (W)
2005: USC (L)
2004: USC (W)
2003: LSU (W)
didn't really care before then.

In Australia, "rooting" means intercourse, so what exactly is this?

In US English, it generally means which team you are hoping will win a game.  So, it's our preferred champion out of the final two teams in each sport over the years.

Born in 1990, and my sporting memories regarding championships started between 2000 and 2003.

Super Bowl:
2000: Rams-Titans: W
2001: no rooting interest
2002: Rams-Cheatriots: L
2003: no rooting interest
2004: Panthers-Cheatriots: L
2005: Eagles-Cheatriots: L
2006: Steelers-Seahawks: W (easy call, because of the combo of being a Steeler fan and an ardent Seachicken hater from my Rams fan days)
2007: Bears-Colts: L
2008: Giants-Cheatriots: L (lone exception to the no rooting for New England rule)
2009: Steelers-Cardinals: W (rooted for Steelers, but would've been fine with the Kurt Warner-led Cardinals getting a ring)
2010: Saints-Colts: W
2011: Steelers-Packers: L
2012: Giants-Cheatriots: W
2013: 49ers-Ratbirds: W (I was a Rams fan at the time, so rooting for Baltimore was practical at that moment and disliked the 49ers. If such a Super Bowl matchup materializes ever again, I'd pull for the 49ers because of my Steelers fandom)
2014: Broncos-Seahawks: L
2015: Boycotted the Super Bowl over the Cheatriots v. Seachickens playing each other and couldn't root for either team in good conscience.
2016: Panthers-Broncos: L
2017: Falcons-Cheatriots: L
2018: Eagles-Cheatriots: W
2019: Boycotted the Super Bowl over the Rams v. Cheatriots playing each other and couldn't root for either team in good conscience over Kroenke and the repeated SB appearances of Brady and Co.
2020:
NOTE: With the exception of the Patriots' unbeaten streak attempt, I rooted against the Patriots. During the time that the Rams were in St. Louis, they were my #1 team. Now, the Steelers fill that role.
Record: 8-9

World Series:
2002: Anaheim Angels-San Francisco Giants: W
2003: Florida Marlins-New York Yankees: W
2004: Boston Red Sox-St. Louis Cardinals: L
2005: Chicago White Sox-Houston Astros: L
2006: St. Louis Cardinals-Detroit Tigers: W
2007: Boston Red Sox-Colorado Rockies: L
2008: Philadelphia Phillies-Tampa Bay Rays: L
2009: New York Yankees-Philadelphia Phillies: L
2010: San Francisco Giants-Texas Rangers: W
2011: St. Louis Cardinals-Texas Rangers: W
2012: San Francisco Giants-Detroit Tigers: L
2013: Boston Red Sox-St. Louis Cardinals: L
2014: San Francisco Giants-Kansas City Royals: L
2015: Kansas City Royals-New York Mets: W (pretty neutral that year)
2016: Chicago Cubs-Cleveland Indians: L
2017: Houston Astros-Los Angeles Dodgers: W
2018: Boston Red Sox-Los Angeles Dodgers: W
2019:
NOTE: If Cardinals are in, I root for them. I ALWAYS root against the Yankees.
Record: 8-9

FIFA World Cup Final
2006: Italy v. France: L, PKs
2010: Spain v. Netherlands: W, AET
2014: Germany v. Argentina: W, AET
2018: France v. Croatia: W
2022:
NOTE: I rooted for the USA until their elimination in each of their last three World Cups.
Record: 3-1

Stanley Cup:
2003-04: Tampa Bay Lightning-Calgary Flames: W (last pre-season canceling lockout edition)
2005-06: Carolina Hurricanes-Edmonton Oilers: W (first post-season canceling lockout edition)
2006-07: Anaheim Ducks-Ottawa Senators: L
2007-08: Detroit Red Wings-Pittsburgh Penguins: L
2008-09: Pittsburgh Penguins-Detroit Red Wings: W
2009-10: Chicago Blackhawks-Philadelphia Flyers: W
2010-11: Boston Bruins-Vancouver Canucks: W
2011-12: Los Angeles Kings-New Jersey Devils: L
2012-13: Chicago Blackhawks-Boston Bruins: L
2013-14: Los Angeles Kings-New York Rangers: L
2014-15: Chicago Blackhawks-Tampa Bay Lightning: L
2015-16: Pittsburgh Penguins-San Jose Sharks: W
2016-17: Pittsburgh Penguins-Nashville Predators: W
2017-18: Washington Capitals-Vegas Golden Knights: L
2018-19:
It'd be nice if my Blues won one someday.
Record: 7-7

2018-19: Alabama-Clemson: W
NEVER Ohio State, Alabama, Duke, or Kansas.

I think a Duke v. Kansas final would be more likely in March Madness than in the CFB Playoffs.
