Today the subjects of the Principality of Liechtenstein voted for their new Landtag.

The (not-so-progressive) Progressive Citizens' Party of governor Adrian Hasler went down from 40.0% to 35.2% and down from 10 to 9 seats.
Its coalition partner, the (slightly more liberal) Patriotic Union remained stable at 33.7% (up from 33.5%) and 8 seats.
Right-wing populist The Independents gained from 15.3% to 18.4%, resulting in 5 instead of 4 seats.
At the margins in this very conservative country remains the left-green Free List, going up from 11.1% to 12.6%, resulting in 3 seats.
Other parties did not contest.

Edit: Governor is Adrian Hasler, not Klaus Tschütscher.

It says a lot about how awful a country is that it being annexed by Switzerland or Austria would be an improvement.

Let's make Tender Prince of Liechtenstein, under a strict condition he would permanently log out. Everybody's happy Smiley

Liechtenstein sounds like the name of a made-up country in a Wes Anderson movie.

I'm pretty sure Liechtenstein is the country that invaded Zubrowka in The Grand Budapest Hotel.

It is a made up country.

It was created because the Liechtenstein family bought some desolate land in the alps and named it after themselves so that they could have a seat in the Austria Diet.

The family didn't even visit the country for over a 100 years, and even today, the Prince regularly threatens to up sticks and leave if the locals don't do what he wants.

Liechtenstein uses the Swiss Franc, the Swiss control its borders and even manage most of its foreign affairs; and the Liechtensteiners themselves are basically culturally indistinguishable from the neighbouring canton of St Gall.
The Swiss even "accidentally" invade the country on a semi-regular basis, with no repercussions because Liechtenstein is only a pretend country.

Broadly speaking, the only reason Liechtenstein exists is to be the sort of slimy tax haven that is rotting democracy from the inside out.

Yep. It was all so the Liechtenstein family could be "upgraded" to the ranks of sovereign rulers within the Holy Roman Empire. A symbol of status and nothing more. They didn't care at all and Liechtenstein was, until last century, a random rural backwater.

Kind of remind me how of Counts of Évreux, a powerful French aristocratic family, used the tiny Kingdom of Navarre as symbol of status, elevating them to the rank of royal family... except those were Middle Ages.

San Marino, for example, might be tiny, but it's a real country with real history.

Believe it or not, Liechtenstein is one of the world leaders and exporters of dental products and prosthetics.
