Whenever you hear talk of infrastructure, generally you get lip service and politicians who want to craft the big projects so that they can get the fancy ribbon cutting ceremonies and the headlines. But what gets left behind, is the people who have to worry every day about the Bridge underneath their car, or the dam up river, taking away everything and possibly even killing them.
This is not acceptable! This is a disgrace!
In NC, we have a problem with earthen dams being eroded away over time and being put at risk for failure when the Hurricanes come in. Not to far away from here, you have spillways threatening to give way, uprooting and destroying many people's lives.
This has got to change. While we need new projects, we need to upgrade and replace, roads, bridges and tunnels that pose a risk to the people and we also need to emphasize our water projects including our dams to make sure that they are likewise secure.
One of the great unfinished projects during my Administration, largely because of its shortened nature, was the inability to get anything done on waterways, including securing those earthen dams, many of which are on lists of at risk infrastructure that need to be replaced, or rebuilt. Another priority was river dredging to ensure that floods are not as devastating, especially when Hurricanes come ashore. At the same time we must balance that with protecting our environment and investing in technologies will minimize human impact on climate change.
We have an obligation to get this done right and we have a obligation to fight for the people. If you want a representative who will fight to get this done for the people, then come out and make your voices heard this weekend.
