With 3 of 4 Laborites motioning to acclaim,
Peebs has been re-elected Congressional Leader,
OneJ_ has been re-elected Congressional Whip,
Clyde1998 has been elected Conference Chair, and
simossad has been re-elected Policy Chair.
OneJ_ can fourth the proposal, but it doesn't seem necessary.

Since the caucus only has three members, I'll serve as acting conference chair. Motion to acclaim the positions.

With 2 of 3 Laborites motioning to acclaim (Also Illiniwek, but in about 40 minutes, his seat is Smith's),
Peebs has been re-elected Congressional Leader,
JGibson has been elected Congressional Whip, and
Alpha has been elected Policy Chair.
Alpha can fourth the proposal, but it doesn't seem necessary.

I think you need to shuffle some chairs now. Tongue

Anyway, the first thing to get some meaning to these positions would be to designate the Whips in both conferences with the task of getting the members out to vote on any given bill.

Bumping this for the 8th Congress. You know the roles.

Declarations:
House Leader: Peebs (inc.)
House Whip: JGibson (inc.)
Senate Leader: Scott
Senate Whip:
Conference Chair:
Policy Chair:

While I'm running for re-elex as leader, I will not accept any nominations for Speaker come September 1, and will be the deciding vote to keep Yankee, should the occasion arise. Senate leader/whip are similar to House leader/whip, except for the Senate. Also, what Yankee said re: whips.

If you

(1) Are a member of the Labor Party; and
(2) Were elected to the House of Representatives last weekend; and
(3) Are not named Peebs or LLR

your inbox is full.

<cough>

Having discussed the idea with several of our representatives-elect earlier this week, I suggest the Caucus open nominations for the post of Majority Leader (which office will correspond to the post of Congressional Leader established in the bylaws). As Peebs and I conceived of it, the Majority Leader would be elected by and from the Labor House Caucus, and would have the following responsibilities:

(1) Making sure Labor's representatives are active, voting, and participating in debates
(2) Conducting regular meetings of the House Caucus
(3) Identifying legislative priorities for the 8th Congress, with the advice of the Caucus

In short the Majority Leader would act as a combined floor leader/whip for our caucus in the House. The idea is to bring a greater semblance of organization to the legislative process, so that the full brunt of running the House does not fall at the Speaker's feet.

Unless anyone has an objection, I'd recommend allowing 48 hours for nominations, followed by a vote.
