Looks like Mark Green's confirmation isn't a sure thing

I don't know enough about the situation to know whether he actually is in danger, though. Or whether this is even relevant to Tennessee gubernatorial politics.

I feel like his nomination will go through, but if it's stopped because he is too conservative for McCain, I don't think that will hurt him too much in the primary.  But, a failed confirmation hearing (plus not actively running for a few months) is still a negative if it were to happen.

Green withdrawing his nomination for Secretary of the Army

Probably didn't have the votes in the Senate.

The bad news: The American people won't get Mark Green as Secretary of the Army
The good news: We will get him as Governor

The best news: Mark Green may not win the primary which means the country might finally be rid of him.

I thought for a second there was actually a person named Bigot who declined to enter the race.

Fun fact: per howmanyofme.com, there are 193 people in the U.S. with the last name "Bigot"

Dean is exactly why I still consider Tennessee a sleeper race even though Green has bowed out. He's the best possible Democratic recruit in the state.

Well, each of the two declared GOP candidates raised roughly that much or more (and are also independently wealthy), so it's good but not great.

For reference, Haslam raised $13.5 million (+$3.5 million of his own money) in 2010; Bredesen raised about $8 million (+$3 million of his own money) in 2002. Not sure if Dean's independently wealthy but probably anybody he faces will be, and TN has a history of wealthy candidates spending big to support their campaigns.

Dean is married to the niece of Joe C. Davis, who owned the Dotiki mine and made some ungodly fortune by selling it to Alliance. Not sure how much of it is left, but she received a significant chunk of inheritance that allowed Dean to self-fund to the tune of $1M+ in his first race for mayor.
