"Lonely is the Night" by Billy Squier - sounds like Led Zeppelin
"Photograph" by Def Leppard - first time I heard it, I thought it was either Boston or Foreigner

sheesh, an endless list right?

Horse With No Name people just KNOW is a Neil Young song.  It's not.
Everything Jackyl did sounded exactly like an AC/DC song, for that matter so did every AC/DC song.  Neither of these are bad things.

A lot artists are actively trying to sound like their idols, especially when they are young.  Speaking of Aerosmith, the first album sounds a lot like the Yardbirds....'cause they wanted it to.  'cause the Yardbirds rocked.  Same with early Zeppelin (it helped that they were the Yardbirds, or what was left of them Smiley ).  The singer of my favorite band heard Bad Religion's Suffer and made him realize a punk song can have a melody too, so NOFX's next few albums sounded a LOT like Suffer.  And then there are the legion of mediocre bands that are lesser parts of a bigger wave who copy other artists not out of love of the art, but for the love of the dollars (and girls, it's always about girls).  Every wave has them.

"Sweet Victory" by SpongeBob sounds like Queen

What Queen songs have you been listening to? Sweet Victory is modeled after generic arena hair rock.

Come on. The chorus is pretty much ripping off We Are the Champions. Although, I'll agree that it probably does sound more like that, but Queen was the first band to come to mind because it exhibits some Queenlike qualities. Including the lyrics, they seem like they should've been written by Queen.

The intro to The Eagles' "Take it to the Limit" is literally the same as Harold Melvin's "If You Don't Know Me"

"Do Ya" by ELO is basically a copy of "Fox on the Run" by Sweet

"2000 Light Years from Home" by the Rolling Stones sounds like it could be a Pink Floyd song

Right Down the Line by Gerry Rafferty, sounds like something by Eric Clapton

On the flip side, for a long time I thought "Wonderful Tonight" was by Rafferty instead of Clapton.
