I have no qualms with this bill at all.

TBH, I didn't really know anything about this until doing a little research today, so I feel like I'm grasping at straws.

I'm not a big believer in sovereignty and all that, but I think we should think about the implications/consequences of unilaterally taking this action.  If we do this, Atlasia will be the only country on the UNSC to recognize SADR.  Morocco will obviously not be happy and won't be relinquishing their claims just because we recognize SADR, but it may embolden SADR to push harder for independence, leading to more violence.  I mean, I could be wrong, but what is the benefit of doing this?

The moroccan occupation of Western Sahara has been filled with human rights abuses, and the conflict has gone on long enough. Atlasia does not have an official position - Instead, let's lead the charge to give these people the territory they deserve. And we should support our allies in Algeria, as well.

This is definitely not an issue I'm very read up on, so I'll have to educate myself a little before I vote.  And once again I would ask our Secretary of State to weigh in.

That said, this bill as written does not explicitly address human rights abuses in the territory and I echo Siren's concerns that its passage might unintentionally open the floodgates to more violence.  If, indeed, we pass a resolution recognizing the Sahrawi government without the backing of our allies and choose to offer unilateral support to the government, I fear that Atlasia will again take upon itself the burdensome endeavor that is acting as a foreign government's police and military force - that is to say, we will relapse to our old seditious habit of nation-building.

Again, I will have to do some research on the conflict before I decide how to vote or amend, but currently I am hesitant to support any bill that might grow our military's already bloated role in world affairs.

I share Siren's concerns about unintentionally causing violence to flare up in the region. This might be a good idea, but it probably isn't the right time given the international climate on the issue. I don't think we're in a position to put strong enough pressure on Morocco to actually *achieve* the goal at hand, but if we're willing to wait until some more friends abroad are on board, I think this could be worthwhile.

Any more comments on this? Personally, I am always reluctant to get involved in politics in that part of the world given the amount of damage we have already done in recent years.

Seeing Ted's opinion is sort of making me re-evaluate. I'm okay with voting this down.

I'll just echo the rest of them in that this doesn't seem like a good idea.

Since we seem to have reached a consensus, I motion for a final vote.
