Democrats are held to a far higher standard than Republicans, especially in red states.

Which is why Menendez will lose while Moore won.

What is it with Republicans comparing corruption with pedophila?

Because Menendez is accused of pedophilia as well?

By right wing blogs with no credibility. There's been no mainstream exposure for this accusation. 90% of voters probably don't even know about it. It's deliberately obtuse to compare that to Roy Moore's pedophilia which nearly every single person who voted in that election knew about, and which nearly a dozen women publicly came forward and accused him of.

These accusations were deemed to flimsy to even publish by the New York Post. Police in the Dominican Republic said three women claimed to have been paid a few hundred dollars each to lie about having had sex with Menendez. I like the way you phrase it, "is accused", as if that by itself has any weight. Weren't you one of the ones saying "innocent until proven guilty", "don't ruin his life" and "don't weaponize MeToo" when it came to Kavanaugh, who had far more credible accusations against him? It's disgusting that Bob Hugin is campaigning on this.

RI unironically posted a tweet from a random with 1500 followers linking to a Daily Caller post accusing Steve Sisolak of domestic abuse, so I don't think he cares if it comes from just "right wing blogs"

Shalala is such a Weak Candidate™ that it would be the 438th seat to go Democratic. Even Heitkamp has better odds than Shalala.

Cramer is favored because Heitkamp is voting like a Senator from Vermont, not North Dakota. Unfortunately for her, she’s also not a #populist Purple heart obese male with an accent or a "folksy" appearance, so swing voters will be less indulgent to her than Tester or Manchin.

She voted no on Kavanaugh because she knew she was toast and wanted to go out her way.

If only she had a flat top she might still be in this.

If there were really a double standard where Dems are judged harder, the fact that the US Attorney claimed they had corroborating evidence of the prostitution claims should alone be more than enough to sink Menendez in a far less Dem state than Alabama is GOP. If there exists a bias, then the evidence required to sink a Dem should be less than that necessary to sink a Republican in an equivalent state, of which NJ and AL are not. That's the point.

I think those comments Cramer made about sexual assault really were taken for granted. It seemed to give Heitkamp the cover she needed to vote against Kavanaugh. Little did we know Cramer’s support has only grown since then.

I also think ND was seen as a populist-Dem friendly state like WV or MT. I think the Dems underestimated how oil workers dominate ND and are less likely to be against Trump. It was seen as a farming state. And Heitkamp failed to reach out to the oil workers the same way Manchin has with miners in WV.

I'm surprised that the tariff hit to farmers hasn't helped Heitkamp more. The only way those tariffs will get reversed is with a Congress that is actually willing to disagree with Trump on policy instead of being afraid of disagreeing.

I am now starting to seriously wonder if Heitkamp will lose by double digits next month. We have now had two polls showing her trailing Cramer by more than 10 points. As I said before, Cramer's victory will complete North Dakota's transition into a solidly Republican state at all levels.

It's crazy that as recently as 2008, Obama got a massive rally of like 20,000 people in North Dakota.

The Blanche Lincoln comparison doesn't actually make any sense, so it makes sense that IceSpear and the usual suspects have latched onto it.

How exactly doesn't it make sense? Due to the Ebsy Mind Model of adding 10 points to the Democrat in any poll?

It actually does make sense, given that Heitkamp, like Lincoln, had her chances overhyped on here because of her status as an incumbent. We now have polls showing her trailing by a wide margin, and it will be difficult for her to overcome that gap, bar a serious polling error on par with 2012.

Something to keep in mind:

There are a lot of farmers in North Dakota. The tariffs are going to be in the news again in a few days, because harvesting season for many of the crops where retaliatory tariffs were placed literally falls in the time between now and election day. Because of how close it is to election day, farmers will not have time to forget. Considering that it will be simple and straightforward to explain how Trump is responsible for this, and because most farmers usually vote Republican, and because there are so many of them in the state, this could legitimately be enough to move the race towards the end by even more points than the worst polls currently show Heitkamp trailing, if the Heitkamp campaign aggressively pushed this point in the final 2 weeks. The Heitkamp campaign is well funded at this point, so they have the resources they need if they are to be aggressive on this issue.
