If by some act of GOD John Breaux got the democratic nomination and selected  John Edwards as his VP, and faced Bush this November what would be the outcome?.. that simple, that is all I’m asking?

I don't really like Breaux but I definitely could get myself to vote for him.

Grin

OK, these are Dems I could actually vote for! Good strong populist moderates who won't make me nervous that they'll shove left-wing social dogma down my throat! Wink

John Breaux represents maybe 5% of the Democratic party. He is totally pro-life, was for the Iraq war, he is fairly conservative fiscally, pro free trade, pro guns, and is against gay marriage. Not exactly a guy to rev up the base.

I would reluctantly vote for Breaux due to Edwards being on the ticket.

Better ticket, and best ticket possible is more for 2008..

John Edwards(NC) / Harold Ford(TN)....although I think Ford is black and I really don't know if the South is still racist or not, or if it was, were any of those racists even voting for democrats?

Breaux is to the right of the Democratic mainstream, but Edwards would have balanced the ticket.

I can't imagine a worse pair of Democrats, except for all the ones to the left of these two.  Breax is ostensibly moderate, but in reality just a typical corrupt 'for sale' Louisiana politician.

god bless the good ol'd "King Fish"... Smiley

How is Breaux a "for sale" politician, Russell Long was not, Mary Landrieu is not... I can’t really see how Louisiana is anymore corrupt than any other state in the union...

Breaux is just a republican Disguised as a democrat.
that's why i would stay home.

Breaux has to be one of the most principled senators... he is a conservative Dem, however he has generally stuck with the party making him as much of a democrat as Snowe or Spectre are Republicans, he does oppose gay marriage but so does Edwards and he does not support the "marriage amendment", he has repeatedly rebuffed overtures from the white house he allegedly turned down a number of cabinet posts offered to him by Bush in early 2001, he stuck by Landrieu in the Senate race of 2002 even when Bush came to the state and heaped praise upon Breaux hours latter he was at the rallies savaging Bush's economic agenda and failures... Breaux is no "DINO" or Republican he is a conservative democrat and a principled man and more moderates like him on either side would be a very good thing, for me he is a little far to the right on the economy but generally i agree with him and have a tremendous amount of respect for him...

I would have though you'd have respected his "wheeling and dealing" for someone who professes an admiration for the Machiavellian machinations of the Nixon administration you seem to have a rather weak stomach... but hey..

And i respect Long for his principle, they guy had many vices and was very radical, but he really was a guy who cared about the people and would stand up to the powerful rail and oil companies that had dominated LA politics for decades even when it seemed as though by making such a stand he was inviting his own doom...

At a national level he was a fighter against the excesses of corporate power, while i think that he was very radical and I don’t really agree with him, i respect the principle behind many of the stands he took and agree with him on the principle if not the (at times) dubious methods he employed... in the final analysis he accomplished a hell of a lot for LA though...

That makes sense... but do you have any respect for his other qualities?
