Tommy Battle vs. Sandy Stimpson vs. Todd Strange vs. Kay Ivey would be an interesting primary. I’m not sure Stimpson and/or Strange want to run, though.

There goes probably the biggest FF in your state legislature. Lindsey’s the only Democrat I could see beating Mike Rogers for that House seat.

Completely unrelated to anything but Richard Lindsey was the grand marshal of our county’s Christmas parade tonight. Great guy! And will be missed in the legislature.

Did he represent a rural White district? Wondering if any of those (rural white D districts) still existed down here.

Pretty much so. It's the 39th state house district. 91% white. Richard is very well known around here. He and his family have been cotton farmers for a very long time. He's been in the Legislature since 1983 and his son currently runs the local cotton gin.

What are Sue Bell Cobb/Walter Maddox's chances at winning now that Democrats are really fired up? And is there any chance they team up?

I'd say the race starts out as Likely R, but Sue Bell Cobb is probably the most electable possible D candidate. as for whether she'd team up with Walt Maddox, I have no clue. but that could be a winning ticket.

I'd also rate it Likely R, but it will be interesting to see if Democrats can sustain the gains they made in this election over the long term, especially in Jefferson, Mobile, Madison and Northwest AL. If they can, AL will become a much more competitive state in the long run.

She voted for the pedophile at her own admission.

After the Moore thing, I wouldn't put money on Ivey making it out of the primary. There's a real chance a complete loon takes it here, too - looking at Scott Dawson.

Yeah, this can't be ignored. It wasn't "I don't believe the Fake News" voting for Moore, either. It was "He probably did it, but I'm voting for him anyway," which was way outside the mainstream.

A Cobb/Maddox ticket would be incredibly strong. I understand Cobb is fairly well-known and well-liked in the state, and Maddox rising fast.

I wouldn't say Cobb is particularly well known. I believe Maddox is more well known and more electable.

It's not that Cobb really did anything wrong, its just that she was kinda in obscure office and didn't do anything particularly notable compared to Maddox. Maddox is the popular mayor of the Alabama success story known as Tuscaloosa. He's very well known across the state because of his terrific response to the April 27, 2011 tornadoes that destroyed Tuscaloosa.

I think Maddox would be the better candidate versus Ivey as well. Ivey, as a woman will eat into some of the votes Cobb's campaign would target like older women.

Yes.

Doesn't mean they can't run a unified campaign.

Does the governor here have veto power on congressional maps? I wonder if it'd be possible to squeeze two Dem districts out even as AL loses one next census anyway.

It should definitely be possible. If we can make one district out of 7 D+20, we can make 2 Dem districts. AL's gerrymander is ridiculous.
