I think Ivey will be the Governor very soon and then she will probably win re-election. The Democratic bench is far to little to take the Governor mansion at the moment.
She'll be 74 in 2018, I don't think she'll be running for reelection
How do you know she won't run for reelection? There have been governors in their 70s before

Looks like Alabama will get its first female governor

Wallace's wife was Governor a while ago, IIRC.

The only female Governor to die in office, actually.

Also, Ivey ran for Governor in 2010 before refocusing down ballot. Doesn't seem safe to assume she won't run for a proper term.

Only two Lieutenant Governors went on to replace a sitting Governor since the office was reestablished in 1903. First, when Albert Brewer became Governor after Lurleen Wallace's death in 1968. Second, when Jim Folsom, Jr. succeeded Guy Hunt upon the latter's conviction (which, under Alabama laws, meant an automatic removal) in 1993.

Both had finished their predecessors' terms and failed to win get elected on their own (Brewer was defeated by Wallace in 1970 Democratic primary, Folsom lost unexpectedly to Fob James in 1994).

IIRC, one incumbent Lieutenant Governor was elected Governor (Don Siegelman).

Yeah, you gotta feel for Bentley's wife during all of this.

It hardly seemed like he was hiding anything anymore. Sending "I love you Rebekah" to her via txt, giving her a tablet loaded with love messages, threatening his wife's chief of staff, and god knows how many other blunders. The report detailed a number of times where his wife came home and Bentley and Mason must have been feeling each other up on the couch.

Good thing for Mrs Bentley that her husband absolutely sucked at keeping secrets or it could have gone on even longer.

Tbh I'm surprised that Bentley survived this long, normally you would think he would bail out before impeachment proceedings started

He should try to stick it out until January 2019. What a shame. Bob Riley was a better governor. Riley should have ran for president. Don Siegelman was smeared in a sense, but got in trouble in 2002.

Now, here's a politician that been wronged on so many levels.

The two last Democratic Governors in Alabama (Siegelman and Folsom Jr.) were really unlucky despite being successfull chief executives. Siegelman lost reelection by 3,120 votes (with some really weird stuff happening in Baldwin County), and then got judicially lynched, just in time to destroy his chances for a comeback in 2006 (the only Democrat with realistic hopes of winning back then, sorry Lucy Baxley).

But Folsom, wow, here's a man with utterly terrible political luck. He was nominated for Senate in 1980 and was expected to win, only to narrowly lose in a Reagan landslide. Then he ascended the governorship after Hunt's removal, had pretty successful administration, but narrowly lost a bid for a full term amid another Republican wave. And then lost reelection as Lt. Governor in 2010, again by a narrow margin with Democrats getting slaughtered all over the country in general and Alabama in particular.

Well this escalated quickly...

Bentley gets booked on one count of failure to disclose information on statement of economic interest, a misdemeanor, and a second charge for failure to file campaign finance reports. Bond is $300 a piece.

Here's the mugshot:

I really didn't want him to resign. I wanted to see him impeached and go through the entire process. Either way, there's nothing more satisfying than watching a politician die an agonizing political death.

what a creepy looking SOB. Good Riddens.

I have no idea if Kay Ivey is going to win, but she will not have the primary field alone. I suspect at least Roy Moore is going to give it one more shot. Tim James is probably too embarrassed to try again after how bad he flopped the first time.

Maddox or Cobb needs to run, and focus on fixing schools and pointing to the mismanagement of the state. LA was in pretty bad shape when JBE ran and that also played a factor in his win along with Vitter.

I think Democrats have a non-zero chance to win the Governorship if the Republican Primary gets brutal enough.

That would require Reid to get taken out in a hit and the Alabama Democratic Party get new leadership. So, not going to happen.

lol...just was reading this on wikipedia...Lurleen...what a name

IIRC she was more or less a puppet of her husband, so Ivey will be the first female to actually be in charge of the office.
