He trails by 0.1% with 84% in. The Indy is taking 5.2% percent and his votes will be redistributed in round 2.

There are two independent candidates, one male and one female.

Are the indys leftys?
Both ran anti-Poliquin campaigns, but I'd place Bond to the right of Golden, though she's closer to him than Poliquin. I'd put Hoar to Golden's left.

Historic.

James Melcher, a former professor of mine at UMF, is usually accurate (Amy Fried is a partisan hack who happens to also be a college professor), but Angus King won like 58-59% of the vote for Governor in 1998 (when he was running for reelection).

Which is why it says "for the first time."

Fried is quite partisan, but she's a good academic.

Also, no one seems to bee talking about the fact that Mills earned the most votes for a Maine governor ever, eclipsing LePage 2014

Yeah, the "hack" part was probably unfair.  She just kind of rubs me the wrong way.  And she definitely doesn't make any effort to hide where her partisan proclivities lie.  Dr. Melcher, also a Democrat who will occasionally go to the Augusta municipal caucus or a meet and greet for a local Democratic candidate, comes across as very non-partisan and shows understanding for both sides of the issues that come up in his interviews.

Also, no one seems to bee talking about the fact that Mills earned the most votes for a Maine governor ever, eclipsing LePage 2014
Yeah, Republicans have made a lot of hay over the "more votes [for Governor] than anyone in Maine history" over the last four years, often as a retort to people complaining about him not getting a majority either time and then governing like he had won in a landslide and had a "mandate".

Looks like Governor Mills won’t need that, then!
