This will change the minds of absolutely 0 Roy Moore supporters.

Does point towards a possible ejection from the Senate if elected, though.

I have my doubts that the Senate Rs would do anything other than welcome Moore with open arms.

Unless they think they can hold a new special election that will get them an R more keen to their agenda and leadership IMO

Mitch McConnell says he believes Roy Moore's accusers and is looking for write-in options in Alabama

I doubt that McConnell really believes the accusers, but it is the necessary thing to say for reasons of optics. If Moore gets elected, he will take his seat and be a regular member of the Republican caucus.

FWIW yes Gloria Allred isn't the ideal standard in unveiling this, but it's another women coming forward to make very serious allegations against someone running for public office. There's always a tendency for the political obsessed to argue that the usual perception/reaction is wrong, but the last thing Moore wants is more and more coming out for the next month

Other than Strange who could possibly be a write-in?

Ejecting him is really the best-case scenario for the GOP. Governor Ivey just reappoints Strange and we hold a second special in 2018, and the GOP gets its safe vote without having to have the whole "We have a pedophile in the caucus" issue.

What's to stop Moore from running again in the second special election?

Just wondering would a write in campaign hurt Moore or Jones more?  Of course first impression is that it would hurt Moore, offering a safe haven for GOPers, who might otherwise hold there noses and vote for Moore.

The question becomes could it become a safe haven for GOPers who would otherwise hold their noses and vote for Jones?

I cannot imagine it being successful unless More gave up and supported it.

I would guess the write in campaign would infuriate the Moore supporters even more against the GOP establishment.

That, and Ivey seems to be self-aware enough that the optics would be terrible. It's write-in or bust
It's Alabama who will stop them from changing the date.

Yep. You saw the same cowardice with these Republican clowns throwing Trump under the bus after Access Hollywood only to kiss the ground that he walks on after he became President. They'll do the same with Moore and say the same PC talking points (he should step aside, I believe the women, this is very disturbing, etc.) but once he wins, they'll just go on like it was Tuesday. What McConnell is saying/doing now is the same thing Republicans do after mass shootings; it's the same "thoughts and prayers" standard response. There's only one way to stop Moore and that's to vote for Mr. Jones, and there's no way in hell that McConnell or any of the party leaders are going to endorse a Democrat.

And as seems to be general consensus on here, the fact that McConnell is speaking out against Moore will only help Moore in the long run. The deplorables of Alabama seem more insistent upon "sending a message to Washington" than they have any shred of decency and morality, which is quite ironic (but not really all that surprising) since this is the heart of the Bible Belt. But Alabamans seem to believe that Jesus would prefer a pedophile over a Democrat.

No way he wins a Republican primary at this point. Given another Republican option, most Republicans would choose the other option; the problem for the GE is that their other option is a Democrat.

That really is there best chance at this point. If McConnell is actually considering this you know they must hate Moore. McConnell's already pissed that he can't get anything done with his 2 vote majority.

I think McConnell knew he wasn't going to get anything done legislatively outside of nominations.

Anyone got a list of those senators supporting/against Moore's candidacy right now?

Hatch calls Strange an "excellent alternative"

I seriously hope that Strange runs as a write-in

Please stop denigrating the voters of Alabama.  If they elect Moore, they are no worse than the voters of Massachusetts, who reelected a man who committed to a DUI, which led to the death of a young lady, whom he made no significant efforts to safe, reported the accident many hours latter, and then used his influence to avoid the consequences of his actions, that any of the rest of us would have to face.

Now Democrats later in 2000 considered DUIs so significant, that they spent the whole weekend before the election explaining to the nation why Bush 43s failure to disclose a DUI when he was 18 disqualified him from being elected.

Another point: stop denigrating them till you see what they do.

I am afraid some of you are as puritanical as some of those you criticize.  I know it is hard to see ones own faults.  I miss some of mine.
