How did none of this come about in any of his court races? Are there no investigative journalists in Alabama?
He notably underperforms in his home county, in a state where your home county is your political base. It's an open secret.

What needs to happen is that Luther Strange must immediately resign. A new senator would be appointed to fill his seat, and a new special election would be called. Unfortunately, it's too late to take Moore off the ballot at this point. Strange gives no indication that he'd do this, but it would be the right thing not only for the GOP but for America. If he doesn't, the best thing that can happen from a republican perspective is Moore winning then being forced to resign, which would also lead to another special election.

you, that would be everything wrong with America's electoral system if we did that.

I don't like the system forcing people to make a last minute decision on whether or not they believe allegations about events from decades ago that conveniently only pop up right before the election (not like Moore hasn't been in the public eye for a long time). Had these come out before the primary, it would have been Brooks over Strange in the runoff or had they come between primary and runoff, Strange would have won.

Wait so can someone explain the mechanism by which Jeff Sessions becomes Senator again (as the rumors are saying)?

1. Moore withdraws candidacy.
2. Jones wins on a technicality.
3. ???
4. Jefferson Beauregard Sessions the 3rd!

Jones deserves to win this election. He is such a good man. He's more christian than even Moore claims himself to be, yet Evangelicals rather a pedophile than a man with a D next to his name.

Does it not occur to you that they support someone who is rather transparently being subjected to a politically motivated witch hunt.

Consider the facts. In the Washington Post story it gave three accounts of Moore courting young women who were, according to Alabama law, of marriageable age. Perhaps you think that the age of consent in Alabama is too low (or more likely you think that young people should be sexually active for a number of years before getting married and starting a family). These stories describe Moore behaving in a highly proper and chaste manner, not only in public but also in private, always asking the mothers permission to court and not engaging in any premarital sex.

In the fourth story however the pattern of behaviour was totally different, abusive, secretive and unchaste. It could have sounded believable on its own but it completely failed to tally with the personality described in the other accounts.

Today's performance really seals it for me for this being BS. Another Oscar nominated Gloria Allred production. Today's Allred 'victim' came out with a statement that was not only describing yet another completely different MO but which read like bad fiction in a trashy novel. A well deserved Oscar nomination for all the over the top acting and fake crying but still pretty transparently fake.

Yeah, ok, buddy. Continue to believe whatever you want. The reality is this creep ing groped teenage girls. Sorry it doen't fit your narrative.

No one should really be surprised by EnglishPete here. He defends most Republicans like this. The highest burden of proof is required for Republicans, while minimal proof required for everyone else. This is a story he was never going to believe unless Moore was caught loving on kids on video tape, 100% visible, and even then I still suspect he'd find ways to nitpick. The only thing that never ceases to amaze me about him is how oblivious to his own behavior he is. From his perspective, everything seems logical, straightforward and quite dumbfounding to him how no one else sees it the way he does.

Factoring in his deep distrust of the media and any other organizations or people that attempt to fact check conservatives, he is a very good example of the wave of paranoia that has infected conservatives over the past decade or two. They can't possibly be wrong, or possibly pick the worst candidates, no, everything is a conspiracy against them Smiley

Anyway, let's please try not to derail this thread. As a veteran of previous EnglishPete derailments, I won't hesitate to forcefully move this thread back on track.

I don't disagree with anything you say about him but it's kinda crappy that you go on a rant about EnglishPete and then just say "ok no one talk about it anymore!" Either you do or you don't but you don't do and then use your authority as a mod to shut down discussion.

The race is lean D at this point.  I get that this is Alabama, but the man literally attempted to rape a kid.  Even Breitbart is borderline throwing him under the bus.  Honestly, McCaskill's probably more likely to lose than Jones.

What needs to happen is that Alabama voters need to vote against a pedophile or stay home.

I didn't say everyone stop talking about it immediately. I was just trying to remind people that if the next 3+ pages becomes nothing but arguments with Pete as they used to in the past with Russia/media-related threads, I'd move to stop that. He has a tendency to dominate discussion with controversial opinions.

Apologies if that was the impression it gave.

No, a special would not be called. This election is to fill the remainder of Sessions', who was originally elected, term, not Strange's.

Conveniently only pop up right before the election oh, i. E. You think it's all a fake liberal conspiracy.

It's official. You suck. Go away.

Go find a family member or friend who has been sexually assaulted and tell them how questionable their motives are. You probably will as long as they're Democrats.

Rape apologists are scum. Go look in the mirror
