Doug Jones is such a strong and good candidate, it's hard to watch him in such an unfair race. If only this was in a more blue state.

LOL at the comments

...I thought Mo Brooks was supposed to be the most "sane" of the Republicans.

Everything in comparison my friend...

Do you guys think that if Doug Jones and Roy Moore emerge as the nominees, this race could end up somewhat resembling Massachusetts 2010? It would give Democrats a pickup that they could hold just long enough that they have a slightly less steep hill to climb in 2018, and when they likely lose the seat in 2020, they will have picked up seats elsewhere.

The early polls(not that they're all that telling at this point in time) show it surprisingly close(at least for Alabama) and I think this could end up like a MA 2010 redux.

Massachusetts is more flexible in elections downballot than olympic gymnasts. Meanwhile, Alabama makes this guy look flexible by comparison:

If Moore becomes the GOP nominee (of which I think there is a 49% chance) it could potentially be competitive and draw some attention.

A Democratic senator, in Alabama, in 2017, yeah, well, okay. I don't think I'll ever see that.

Competitive, not a D win but competitive with Moore is possible.

If it's competitive with Moore, it'll be competitive with Strange as well.

I don't think it will be "competitive" with either.

It can be. Massachusetts 2010 was never "competitive".

My God, Massachusetts and Alabama are such different states, comparing them like that just looks stupid.

CNN was laughing and saying how the dems have no chance here (true), but they also said Kennedy is leading because of his fake name, We will show them tonight, Doug Jones for victory!

Might not be an answerable question, but does low turnout benefit a certain republican/democrat?

Wasn't roy moore getting largest amounts of support the older voters? And don't older voters tend to turn out at highest rates?

It usually favours Republicans and conservatives, because as you said, older white people are not as affected as other groups.

Well, there we have it. Moore gets his and Pittman's voters, and Strange gets the balance. Result: Strange wins Runoff 54-46.

again.

why would brooks voters vote for Strange?

Both are establishment republicans.

I just got an email that the National Organization for Marriage has endorsed Roy Moore, not that that should come as a shock

National Organization for Marriage, hmm... now I probably am wrong on this, but that just sounds like a code word for "bleep you lgbt's"

http://yellowhammernews.com/featured/debate-gate-the-alabama-senate-race-gets-even-moore-strange-lhuff/

So the Moore September Stumbles list is now:

- Aleppo moments on DACA and national right to work
- Holding a fundraiser with a Never-Trumper
- Suggesting he is open to the idea of executing gays
- Refusing to debate Strange

Is he trying to lose the primary?

As retarded as that may seem to us, the only thing that is likely to be seen as a negative to Alabama GOP voters is the fundraiser. The Gay Thing is probably a pro for this race, and the other ones are just neutral.

The problem for Moore is that while amping up the alt-right, neo-nazi, ultra-conservative sector might get him a narrow runoff victory, it also gives plenty of ammunition to Jones for the general. Jones meanwhile has no clear gaffes yet and doesn't have significant baggage.

Not for Alabama, if anything that's a pro for Moore. Also prosecuting and jailing KKK members in Alabama is probably baggage in such a backwards state.

Luther held himself together for the first 20 mins, then got driven over up until the last 10 mins. Overall, Moore win.

Wasting money on Alabama is criminal...if it were a gubernatorial race fine, but no Dem is getting sent to Congress from this state.

Republican strategists said the same thing about Massachusetts in 2010.

Wait this is tonight? I could have sworn it was in December.

Nah, the thing in december is a formality now. Today is the "real" election.

Be honest. If the situation was reversed - i.e. the dems were the pedophiles - would you really care that much? I highly doubt it.

Just wait until Bob Menendez is convicted.

And then replaced by generic D whatever by Murphy in that scenario, sounds good.
