Ugh, Cameron I suppose. It reminds me of how both the Conservatives in the UK and the Republicans in the US have amazing politicians but always end up choosing the worst of them as leaders.

Thatcher , Cameron , and May are amazing

I really like Thatcher, but I'm not really impressed by the other Tory leaders. Cameron and May aren't terrible and I would absolutely vote for them but they still are disappointing for a centre-right/right-wing party imo. Thatcher wasn't PM during my lifetime btw, she absolutely would have been my favorite PM in my lifetime if she were.

All were hideous, I suppose Brown was the least awful.

Brown.

What can I say? He did a remarkably good job of addressing the 2008 crisis... not just domestically, but on the world stage. He did his national service, taking a pounding (not least from himself, one suspects) for the crumbling of his career under the immense pressure of the financial crisis.

I guess Major, but maybe Theresa May will end up being good.

May for me so far at least. I had a positive image of Cameron when he was in office as well. It's hilarious to see all the votes for Brown. I heard Tony Blair speak when I was a kid with my dad at Depauw University in Greencastle.

Surprise Surprise has to Blair. There's another universe where Brown become PM in '97, and didn't do some of the more, free market reforms that Blair did (e.g Tuition Fees) but it's worth noting that beyond that, and public service reforms (whatever they actually are!) Blair and Brown had virtually no policy differences, beyond whatever was said at Granita.

Brown was a very competent Chancellor, and deserves all the credit for 'saving the world' but he was an awful party leader, and should have been replaced by someone like Straw or Johnson in '09.

Rankings all together
Blair
Brown
Major

Cameron
May

ugh Brown is the least worst of them I suppose; then the war criminal, then probably Major if only because he seems like an alright chap with bad politics and then down in the pits of hell with their hero you have Cameron and May, the order for them is irrelevant at this point

It's funny, because i think Blair was the best government of my lifetime (which goes to show how bad the rest of them were tbh) but Brown is my favourite PM.

The first term of the Blair government is certainly the best single term of government in my lifetime in that they got quite a lot of objectively good things done (minimum wage; signing up to the EU social chapter which improved workers rights; devolution for Scotland, Northern Ireland, Wales and London; etc): the issue really is lots of what happened afterwards...

So far, May. But my opinion really doesn't have much depth to it when it comes to international politics.

Brown.

Quite.  So for me the answer is Brown, and not really "by default".  He certainly had a number of flaws as a politician, but given the context of the time I think he did quite a good job as PM.

The ranking probably then goes
Callaghan
Blair
Major
(big gap)
May
Th*tch*r
Cameron

The Blair governments did achieve a fair amount, but I've always felt that given their majorities they should have achieved more, and then there's a certain four letter word ending in Q.  I also just don't like him (and never have).

Like most people, Brown by default. Thatcher is obviously the worst.

1. Blair, sadly
2. Brown, unfortunately
3. Cameron, horrifyingly

Thatcher, jr. doesn't get a rating yet.

This. Don't really know enough about John Major to give him a rating, apart from various sex scandals under his administration.
