But, why did we compromise with the Democrats at all? We have majorities in both chambers- there is no reason to give murderers money to murder more people! I'm disgusted! Maybe we can get a coalition of the far-right (acting for the right reasons) and the far-left (acting for the wrong reasons) to stop this thing, but I am devastated right now.
You know how for a long time conservatives loved to say we were a "republic, not a democracy".
Well this is what that means in action. That knife cuts both ways.
The system is designed to thwart the majority party to the point of watering down the proposed agenda and therefore ensuring stability and thereby enshrining institutional stability.
Ironically, if the far right was more cooperative, Republicans probably could have extracted more in the negotiations in the Senate. However, Republicans have 239 seats and yet needed to come cap in hand to Nancy Pelosi for votes because there are 40 to 60 Republicans who prefer to vote no on everything. Perhaps they are shooting the Republican party in feet with a shotgun for the "right reasons", but at the end of the day it doesn't matter what their reasons are, they are still blowing their own feet off with a shotgun.
Kind of hard to get anywhere without feet. Including protecting the unborn.
