wow there have only been two left of center leaders in France since 1965 and one of them is a one term fool who basically got booted for trying to do right-wing things.

...de Gaulle, I suppose, though that's more his pre-Presidency than his Presidency. Damn, what a terrible group.

What a sorry lot. I suppose Mitterand wins the crown by default.

I'm not even going to vote. What a terrible bunch. Macron probably will get my vote in 5 years if he does what he promises.

Even worse: in the Fourth Repunlic there was only one centre left PM of any relevance (i.e he lasted 16 months in office, which by Third Republic PM's is equivalent to a decade) Guy Mollet, and he is best known for a) the Suez disaster and b) Algeria screw-ups. You have to go back to Leon Blum to get a leader worth a damn.

Mendès France was a massive FF and decidedly left-wing (more so than his party would suggest, at least).

I should have said "from a left wing party".
