Let's take a step back and look at the history books of 2050. This is how this week will look.

This is the literal objective historical record. This is what the Trump people here on this board are defending today. Winning is so much more important than explaining to the generation of 2050 why you supported this.

Aside from EnglishPete who is some sort of British UKIP person and JJC. who is -- well, to put it kindly, a bit overly dramatic about his hate of Democrats and “anti-illegal immigrants,” virtually all the Trump Republicans haven't made a defense of this. They know they'd be roundly mocked for it.

I'm pretty sure that deep down these supporters know that Trump reflects badly on them and they care more about winning against the Left in a series of ephemeral battles rather than actually supporting him. This was a lot of their reasons for supporting Trump: beat Hillary at all costs. That's their principles, essentially: a pleasure over beating the Left instead of advancing a series of goals.

This.

So much this.

No it isn't. There's no evidence that this was the reason for Comey's removal, just a lot of fevered speculation in the opposition media and from opposition politicians.

Except that's literally what his spokesperson said

Nope. What she literally said was that they was they wanted the investigation to have integrity. She then commented that by firing Comey that they have helped make that happen. In other words she's saying that that's a benefit of the firing, not that it was the cause of the firing.

We have Trump's letter to Comey

This was confirmed by the White House,

And by the Vice President,

But then the reported story changed,

And now, from the... horse's own mouth, we have a confirmation of the "new" story.

The one thing we know is that Comey's firing was absolutely, completely, not about Russia.

Oh, wait.

In spite of the above, I'm willing to believe this wasn't really a politically motivated firing, that Trump wasn't trying to spike the investigation. I think it's probably more likely that the big secret behind Comey's firing is the same as that of the whole Trump administration. Nothing. There's no there there. They're just a bunch of not-very-bright, incompetent, petty, greedy egotists tripping over themselves without a damned clue what they're doing. It would probably (will probably, assuming Western civilization survives them) make an absolutely hilarious farce.

President Donald Trump told NBC News' Lester Holt that any ties between Trump and Russia is a story fabricated by Democrats to use as an excuse for losing the 2016 election.

After hearing and reading some news, I don't believe Trump fired Comey because of Russia investigation. Otherwise he should have appointed new one very quickly to cover-up and acting director isn't sounding as someone willing to cover-up. And Watergate comparisons are lunacy. It probably has to do with Comey unwilling to charge Clinton (and if so, that would be actually a very good move!). PR is not the biggest strength of Trump so it is what it is and the liberal (often fake news) media jump out on the bandwagon immediately, with their ultimate goal of see an impeached Trump. Such is their hate for him.

He can't unilaterally appoint someone, the Senate needs to vote on his pick.

All that shows is that it was a rushed decision....not something planned out.

How much sense does it make that it was a rushed decision about Comey's handling of the Email Investigation that they knew about since last year?

Trump literally said he fired Comey because of Russia in the interview with Lester Holt. It's obstruction of and an impeachable offence.

Well, at least the FBI and intelligence community are now united in their front against Trump.

Not to mention making rushed, unplanned decisions or statements is exactly how Trump behaves. There is a reason Spicer and other surrogates had no idea what to say - because Trump just fired from the hip, as is usual for him. Figuring out who to put in place ahead of time is completely unnatural logic for Trump.

Trump got rid of Comey because he couldn't control him:

SHS's problem is that she goes so far in the opposite direction from reality when she defends Trump, she makes trouble for herself by building up the "alternative reality" too earnestly and with too much detail.

When has Trump ever planned a second step or follow-through to his impulsive moves?

There is an acting FBI director. But hilariously, he's under investigation for conflict of interest in the Hillary investigation. So maybe Trump will fire him too.

La Cosa Nostra found this out the hard way. You'd think, as someone who has built things in NY, Trump would know why

Yeah, now the FBI sees Trump with more hostile eyes than they used to. Which could be rather important going forward. The intelligence community, the FBI, both disdaining Trump could be an instrumental step in Trump becoming a failed President. After all, every great successful President has known that they need to win the support of the establishment to succeed. And what's more powerful and establishment than the national security complex & law enforcement agencies? They're also two major Republican - friendly groups. Notably, they backed George W. Bush fairly well in 2000 (I don't remember about Reagan) and traditionally, the national security and law enforcement groups have been associated with the Republican Party.

The outcome of this week may be that the anti-Trump forces may have gained a powerful ally in the FBI although that stuff is not going to play out overnight.

Comey is a strong patriot who is well aware of the classified material around Trump relating to his businesses and his Russian ties. I would imagine Comey will not let that die down easily. Neither will his allies in the FBI who feel he was pushed out.

Sooo ..

Trump himself stated comey wasn't loyal and since Russia is not real, it was okay.

We know - from anonymous Comey - that Trump wanted a loyalty pledge in week 1.

Huckabee-Sanders stated they had hoped this would make the Russia thing go away faster.

And Kellyanne said, a FBI director....SHOULD BE LOYAL TO THE COUNTRY!

What more do we effing need? they are spelling it out/ spilling everything.

Yepp. So it (as I said initially) is a really good news. Trump's acting resulted in the 'Russia ties' will get even more scrutiny!

The way Trump fired Comey is also very interesting. It was really awful, almost as Trump wanted Comey to react/start to leak. I hope we'll get soon much more new information (if there is something Wink)

The NYT is reporting this morning that in the meeting, Trump demanded loyalty of Comey. "Kiss thy ring!" Yeah, this will bite him if true. McGabe was an ally of Comey.
