Now imagine we have a President Clinton. Boy oh boy, the Trump Brigade would be pissed!

Many probably would. Comey still should have been fired though.

Although, unlike Trump, there was actual undeniable proof that Clinton broke multiple feral laws. But she was was not prosecuted because Comey didn't want to sack a presidential nominee.

Which is ironic. Because had he done his job, Biden would have stepped in and probably crushed Trump.

Clinton broke no "federal" laws....if anything they were loose regulations with no written punishments.

Trump has already been brought to court and found guilty in multiple lawsuits (Like Trump University) that says he broke laws.

And there are so many Trump admin./Russia connections you'd need a gas mask not to feel all the smoke in the room.

I for one think there should be an independent investigation just to close this once and for all, but my belief is not because of the firing of Comey. This is just a stupid attempt to make Trump seem corrupt.

Almost the entire Democratic Senate caucus has been calling for an independent investigation into the Russia Scandal....

anyone who honestly thinks that if any evidence existed of a direct collusion between Trump and Russia that it would not have been leaked to CNN months ago is naive

Too bad Republicans didn't have the same logic toward Benghazi.

Screaming Russia, Russia, Russia, as you, the liberal media and the Democrats are doing, without a scintilla of evidence that Trump did anything criminal isn't going to change this calculus.  The Russia investigation is part of the FBI's domestic surveillance role, not criminal.

You seriously think the entire Michael Flynn ordeal is "not a scintilla of evidence"Huh?

Not to mention the plethora of other contacts to Russia that the Trump Administration has?

If Trump had fired Comey on the first day, as some suggest,  it still would have Russia implications, possibly more.

timing AND explanation.

why was is soooo necessary to fire comey RIGHT NOW even before the administration even has had time to create a believable narrative?
If they waited until yesterday because it was only on Monday that we has Clapper's testimony under oath that there was no evidence against Trump then why would they wait a day longer? If he's the wrong man for the job then why fire him any later than necessary?

If this was a planned event from the beginning of the administration you'd think they'd have a replacement lined up, rather than just an impromptu firing that we saw yesterday.

EnglishPete, may I ask who you think is controlling the fake news?
What a curious question. News journal editors, News journal proprietors, TV editors and producers, Directors of the companies that own TV companies, lobbyists, political party bosses, politicians etc etc. All kinds of people.

Its a bit like any other industry. Food production is controlled by all the people who play a role in running the various parts of the food industry, washing machine production is controlled by all the people who run companies involved in washing machine manufacturing and distribution and likewise fake news is controlled by all the people who run organisations involved in the fake news industry (AKA the mass media).

So anytime "evidence" comes up against Trump you just yell "FAKE NEWS!" and then proclaim that no evidence against Trump has ever come up!!

Brilliant Strategy!  It's completely unbeatable!!!

So if the trend continues and anyone "caught" investigating the Russia Scandal gets fired....will any of the blue avatars on here EVER start to get suspicious of the Trump Administration or is Trump forever holy in all your eyes?

Either way you put the "Fired Comey cause of Hillary Clinton" excuse it still makes NO sense.

1.  Comey needed to be fired because he didn't convict Hillary

How is this justification for firing someone?   They couldn't built a case against the person so they need to be fired from their job?   Trump knows more about the email investigation than Comey so Trump made the call that Hillary should've went to prison and Comey failed?Huh   Is this a new standard we'll hold all prosecuter's/investigators now???    Does no one realize how insane this is?

2.  Comey needed to be fired because he mistreated Hillary

Why in the world would Trump suddenly change his mind after countless praises and encouragements last year about investigating Hillary?   He got angry anytime Comey wasn't going after Hillary Clinton hardcore.    Please, this excuse is so ridiculous I honestly don't believe any Conservatives really believe it.

And then Trump releases a letter thanking Comey for personally telling him that he's not under investigation....why would an investigator ever tell you you aren't under investigation?    And didn't Comey publicly tell Congress there was an investigation with Trump and Russia?

The Trump Administration's explanation of all this makes absolutely no sense whatsoever.

I doubt he personally collaborated with Russia. He isn't competent enough for that.

It's the stealth that's hurting him. His actions make it look like he has something to hide....even if he doesn't.

No, it is 'delaying' that hurts him badly. He needs a fast investigation regardless the results (so did Hillary). RussiaGate has actually fewer indication of wrongdoing than HerEmails&Benghazi. And those two were obvious nothing-burgers.

I mean, I've totally got (game theory behind) why Democrats want this investigation to take years and years. GOP did the same (to Hillary) and succeed (ruined her image). Emails&Benghazi were totally bs, so is Russia thing.

Only...it's not a nothing burger.   There are multiple multiple multiple links between Trump Administration and Russia.

If the Republicans want a fast and easy investigation and Trump did nothing wrong they'd both be pushing for an independent investigation/investigator....they aren't.   They're just slumping along hoping everything just disappears eventually.

He can't unilaterally appoint someone, the Senate needs to vote on his pick.
But he still hasn't picked one.

All that shows is that it was a rushed decision....not something planned out.

How much sense does it make that it was a rushed decision about Comey's handling of the Email Investigation that they knew about since last year?

The full, 13-minutes interview with Trump by NBC
http://www.nbcnews.com/nightly-news/video/pres-trump-s-extended-exclusive-interview-with-lester-holt-at-the-white-house-941854787582

Trump claims that Comey told him three times that he was not under any investigation. And Trump was very specific.

Once at dinner.
Once when Comey called him.
Once when he called Comey.

What will happen if Comey denies it? Will he and Trump testify?

Comey and the FBI have already denied that they ever said that to Trump.

Trump's going on a Twitter rampage again, guys!

Donald J. Trump‏Verified account @realDonaldTrump 24m24 minutes ago
...Maybe the best thing to do would be to cancel all future "press briefings" and hand out written responses for the sake of accuracy???

James Comey better hope that there are no "tapes" of our conversations before he starts leaking to the press!

Oh geez Donald....just shut up already.

LOL, so Trump called and bragged about himself, "taped" it and after 25 leaked it to the media?

As creepy as it is, I really can see Trump calling Comey, bragging about his win, asking Comey about the investigation... and recording it on a tape...

Well, I'd be afraid if I was Comey...
Why?
Because he could be in significant legal trouble.

Trump was Comey's boss....any legal trouble Comey got into would almost certainly reflect badly on Trump as well (if not worse)

Exactly. A couple of things that people should remember about Trump. Firstly he has long been paranoid about being spied on and recorded. Its therefore unlikely that he would have said anything over dinner that could later be used against him as he would fully expect ever word to be potentially spied on and taped.

Also part of the reason he so readily expects to be spied on in this way is that he engages in this kind of behaviour himself. I'm sure that the tape he leaked of his conversation with the journalist is only one of hundreds of similar tapes in his possession. His security in his establishments have certainly been known for using similar methods. I would expect him to be doing the same sort of thing in the White House.

If Trump was having dinner with Comey he would fully expect Comey to be potentially spying on him and recording their conversation. Comey on the other hand might not expect the President of the United States to be secretly taping their conversation and may have let his guard down. Yes its quite possible that Comey could be sweating right now over something he said.

So you're perfectly okay with Trump bullying Comey into submission?

Can this thread become the 'Russiaism is the new Birtherism' thread? (Gass might want to edit it)

Not really, considering Obama made it through his 8 years without being impeached.   We can't say the same for Trump.

Can we please forget about the attempts to derail the thread from the fact that the President of the United States was mad at the the Director of the FBI for investigating the President's campaign's ties to a foreign power, so he threw a temper tantrum and fired him?
Thank you!!!!!!!!!

Why exactly isn't Krazen banned from this forum?
