As it stands now, it seems like James Comey wasn't fired due to any cover-up over Russia, but rather because Trump was annoyed that Comey has been unwilling to become one of his Yes-men.

And somehow, Trump deluded himself into thinking that it would work because Comey was "unpopular with Democrats". He's got the political instinct (and the temperament) of a five-year old.

Can we please forget about the attempts to derail the thread from the fact that the President of the United States was mad at the the Director of the FBI for investigating the President's campaign's ties to a foreign power, so he threw a temper tantrum and fired him?

Yes, Trump committed obstruction of justice. He publicly admitted as much himself. But that's only a crime when the opposing party holds majority in Congress.
