Not surprising that Heath Mello lost the Omaha mayoral race.

Also, if a Democrat is pro-life and is chased out the party, and a Republican is pro-choice and is chased out the party, it shows that we need more and more independents. The rancid ideological purity in both of these parties are sickening. There is a reason why there are growing unaffiliated Independents.

I honestly could not care less who the Mayor of Omaha is.

It is an important Midwestern city in a swing congressional district that could matter in 2020.

Democrats outnumber Republicans in Omaha... Mello should have won in a walk in this Trump era... Right? After all, that's what we are told about other random special elections this year.

And that shows how the "Resistance" crumbles

That's the winning attitude!

Thanks DNC! (Special shout out to Daily Kos Elections)
Shouldn't write anti-choice legislation.

No one seemed to have a problem with it until it turned into an opportunity to bash the Sanders wing with.

Or you know we think it is bad all the time.  Don't even try and tie this to the damn primaries.

Unlike some men in the party, I understand the Abortion is an economic issue as well as a social one, and supporting candidates who have rolled it back is stupid.

Democrats outnumber Republicans by 130,798 to 128,576, but there are also 79,857 nonpartisan voters and 4,064 Libertarians. Typically, Republicans tend to have a notable edge among nonpartisan/Independent voters, so it is likely the registered Republican and Republican-leaning nonpartisans outnumber Democrats and Democrat-leaning nonpartisans by probably ~10,000.

Nevertheless, this was an essential toss-up election in the largest city in a district that Obama carried before. It was a poor performance for the Democrats. It does not surprise me though, considering unlike what appears to be the majority on this forum, I think Republicans are considerably better positioned to win elections throughout America.

I imagine the whole abortion snafu sank him. Still, from what I gather - Stothert was competent and uncontroversial, and Mello may have hurt himself over not supporting a streetcar project popular with many urban voters

So how would you feel to a primary challenge to Jon Bel Edwards?

Has he ever written and passed anti-choice legislation?

I'm not saying get rid of all who don't like abortion, just don't try and restrict it like this douce bag did.

Why are Sherrod Brown in Disguise and Hindsight is 2020 nowhere to be seen in this thread?

Anyway, nationalizing mayoral elections doesn't work, part #152984.

Ah, sorry, I forgot that I am honor bound to continue all internet arguments until one of us submits.

My point is that the party held Heath Mello to a standard I have never seen it apply to ANY other candidate in a serious race. Even as the local party was perfectly okay with Mello's history.

If we're going to start becoming an ideologically pure left-wing party and start refusing support to candidates that don't match up, fine. But in this case it was entirely a pithy, pedeantic response to people who despise Bernie Sanders but claim you're drudging up the primary when you call them out on it.

Sure, this is the fault of people against Bernie.  It always is.
