Mayor Kasim Reed is in the final year of his two-term administration and the race to choose his successor is turning into an extremely competitive contest.

Technically nonpartisan, Atlanta has been governed by Democrats continuously since 1879 and this year will almost certainly be no exception. As was witnessed in the Georgia-6 special election, the general election on November 7 will be a "jungle primary" between all candidates, and, if no majority is reached on the day, a runoff between the top-two will take place on December 5.

Declared candidates (Names and descriptions taken from Wikipedia)Sad
Laban King, Real Estate Entrepreneur & Business Developer
John Eaves, Fulton County Chairman, District 7, At-Large
Peter Aman, former Chief Operating Officer of Atlanta
Al Bartell, Green Party Candidate
Alex Barrella, Cartoonist
Keisha Lance Bottoms, Atlanta City Councilmember (District 11)
Vincent Fort, Georgia State Senator
Kwanza Hall, Atlanta City Councilmember (District 2)
Debra Ann Hampton
Ceasar Mitchell, Atlanta City Council President
Mary Norwood, Atlanta City Councilmember (Post 2 At Large) and candidate for Mayor in 2009
Kimberley Johnson Obasuyi
Robb Pitts, former Atlanta City Councilmember, current Fulton County Commissioner (District 2, At-Large)
Michael Sterling, Former Director of the Atlanta Workforce Development Agency
Cathy Woolard, former Atlanta City Council President
Tommy Youngblood Jr, Former Civil Rights Activist for the NAACP. LGBT Advocate.

Mary Norwood, who lost the runoff to Reed by 700 votes in 2009, is the clear front runner at this stage, but polling has been sporadic and the race has yet to catch a great deal of attention among the electorate. Vincent Fort is very high-profile left-wing State Senator and has been endorsed by the "Our Revolution" organization and endorsed Bernie Sanders during the presidential primary.

As well as the Mayoral race, elections for the entire City Council will also be held. The Council President is a separate office elected by the full city, while the Council proper consists of fifteen members, twelve elected through single-member districts, and three elected at-large. Again, while officially nonpartisan, the Council has an overwhelming Democratic majority, and divisions are not drawn across partisan lines.

I can see Kwanzza Hall winning in Atlanta. He seems like a good candidate.
