[1] Would have probably initially supported Walter Mondale before he dropped out early on, and then moved on to Scoop Jackson. After Jackson dropped out of the race, I'd be on board with the 'Anybody-But-Carter' forces and support a draft of Hubert Humphrey, Ed Muskie, or Teddy Kennedy (or Mondale and Jackson) at the Convention. Still would have voted Carter in the general, though.

[2] Enthusiastic support for Kennedy, particularly because at this point Carter is unelectable and ineffectual. Still would go for Carter in the general though.

[3] Mondale leaves the least bad taste in my mouth out of all the candidates. Would have at least considered voting for John Glenn, though.

[4] Another 'least bad of a bad field' choice.

[5] After Harkin, I'd probably support Clinton, because Jerry Brown is to Clinton's right on fiscal policy.

[6] No choice here, but I would have supported a liberal challenge to Clinton.

[7] No real love for Bradley, but he's to the left of Gore.

[8] After Gephardt dropped out, I would have supported John Edwards.

[9] Actually did support Edwards at first because he was to the left of Clinton and Obama. After he dropped out, I supported Clinton before settling on Obama. In retrospect, I should have supported Clinton, but she was too DLC for me in 2008 until after Edwards dropped out and she moved to the left to get Edwards' voters (like me).

Debs' overt socialism was preferable to the corporatist "Progressivism" of his opponents. Thomas was the only choice opposed to interventionism. Thurmond is a protest vote against the welfare statism and interventionism of his opponents. Baldwin is less nausea-inducing than Barr.

I probably would have supported Nelson Rockefeller in the 1964 primaries, but I would have backed Goldwater once he got the Republican nomination because he was the party's nominee and I would have felt that we needed to unite behind him.  He may have opposed the 1964 CRA, but it was on constitutional grounds (phony constitutional grounds, may I add, because of the Equal Protection Clause of the Fourteenth Amendment.)  He was a founding member of the NAACP in Arizona and was instrumental in making his family's business one of the first in the state to desegregate.  He also supported the 1957 and 1960 CRAs.  Johnson, ironically, tried to portray Goldwater as a racist for his vote, but Goldwater's overall civil rights record was much better than that of the racist and political opportunist Johnson.
