#1
Excellent. It serves a useful function.

#2
Very good, but is overly controlled by a few large corporations, which censor unpopular or inconvenient news stories

#3
Very good, but it's too far left

#4
Very good, but it's too far right

#5
Not good. I'd prefer to rely on alternative media for most news.

In terms of investigative journalism the mainstream media is serving an invaluable function now that Trump is in the White House.  And if they continue to do what they are doing (especially if Trump is eventually impeached and convicted), I am willing to forgive (if not forget) all their previous failings.

Excellent.  It serves a useful function.  In fact, it serves at least three useful functions:  it provides to the public information, it moves products by selling advertising time, and it provides jobs.

Option 2.

But I would say that 24-hour cable channels do not qualify as MSM.  The idea that news should be on twenty-four hours a day is quite new and pretty radical, and the entire gambit of cable news, from MSNBC to CNN to Fox, reeks of sensationalist newsertainment that unqualifies it to hold the same position as NYT, WaPo, CBS, WSJ, etc.

I would say somewhat good, too far left

I don't even really watch V news now because it's all just so bad. Everything that's not Fox is showing the news but everything is so anti-GOP its ridiculous, and Fox is showing the news but not enough news about Trump investigations, just college kids getting pissed off (which is fun to watch but gets boring over time)

Some people think Wall Street Journal is too far right.
