I mean according the surveys he is the country's least popular governor at the moment with his approval  rating being extremely low. I assume a analog to this would Bush's low approval numbers just being a negative to MCcain in 2008.

Absolutely. Not to say Guadagno wouldn't have had a difficult race in blue NJ, but her chances are almost completely gone now.

This. Those two men, George W. Bush and Christopher J. Christie. Both appealed to suburbanite America. Both were seen as saviors for the Republican Party, but lost steam at the end.

Yes, the deck was pretty thoroughly stacked against NJ Republicans this cycle. On that note, I'm kind of curious what the political environment would look like if Christie somehow remained popular.

Guadagno seems like she'll be the Ford to Christie's Nixon.

I imagine a crowded field would enter, including Kate Whitman, Don Guardian, Tom Kean, Jr., and maybe even a big name Congressman like Smith or LoBiondo.

Ford only lost narrowly though, Guadagno will lose in a landslide.

Still a Democratic pickup, just like how Democrats would be favored in MA if Baker decided to retire.

Undoubtedly. GOP would have a better chance (not much better, but better) with Ciaterelli

Has Christie even set foot in NJ recently? Last I heard about him, he was still running around with Trump.

It's still possible that she underperforms in the primary even. Polling for her in the primary has been good but not outstanding.

Honestly even if Christie was popular I think Democrats would be the massive favorites, barring an awful candidate. The combination of eight years of a Republican governor plus an unpopular Republican president would be very tough for a New Jersey Republican nominee to overcome.

This. Kean and Whitman were both very popular, however were both succeeded by Democrats.

With an 18% approval rating, Christie is as toxic as Cyanide right now. I honestly think Guadagno doesn't really stand a chance when she gets to the general.

I doubt any Republican could win a gubernatorial el literally have a perfection in New Jersey this cycle. The Democrats have the perfect conditions.
