People have a right to eat, but peope don't have a right to food.

Huge difference.

People have a right to bear arms, they don't have a right to arms.

He seems sympathetic to handing out some food assistance, but is uncomfortable calling it a "right," worried that somehow he was going to get trapped into being labeled a "liberal" or something, or wanted to keep his options option, as to a budget that cut benefits (hopefully not to starvation, or ironically, junk food obesity leading to death, levels, but he would be the last person to accurately assess the human damage). In short, his real problem is that he is a dumb, who views the desperately poor as a political problem, rather than as fellows humans in dire need that need help.

Thanks, poor starving families really appreciate that. Maybe we should buy them guns? Some conservatives seem to see guns as more important than food, so it must be right.

I expect this Congressman to face no consequences. His is one of the most politically-conservative in America, and quite possibly the 538th electoral vote for the Democratic Party. West Virginia, Oklahoma, Idaho, and Wyoming  -- let alone the other two districts or Nebraska and the state at large --  go D before his district does. His district, central and western Nebraska, ir ranch and dry-farm country. The only significant number of potential Democratic voters are (1) school teachers, (2) rail workers, and (3) First Peoples. This district is about R+35.

He actually had a surprisingly tough initial election in 2006. He is so far right-wing and radical with his proposals to get rid of the Department of Agriculture that even conservative Nebraska farmers were hood off. The Democrats nominated some Dreamboat candidate, Scott Kleeb, a Rancher with on Yale degree comma where you only got 55% of the vote. Mind you, he's had nothing but blowout elections since then so.....

Really? That's surprising considering that their purported ideology was all about actually fulfilling those rights.

The Soviet Union under Stalin (really basically for its entire existence save for the NEP era, the early Khrushchev years, and Gorbachev) was basically like the very end of Animal Farm, so no shock that they didn't want to sign it.

Considering that these are purely symbolic declarations with no binding force whatsoever, and that no person claiming to be a communist could possibly disagree with any part of it, I still fail to see why they wouldn't. They signed the Helsinki convention, for crying out loud.
