Looking over the 2016 election results, Hillary Clinton won 59% of New York state's vote for president, but Chuck Schumer won 70% in its vote for senator. This means that there were hundreds of thousands of voters who backed for Trump for president, and Schumer for senator.
On paper, this is an odd prospect, as Trump has repeatedly vilified Schumer as the poster boy of Washington's establishment problems. What kind of voter splits their ballot like this, and what are their motivations?
