Personally, I never liked sports. Even as a child the only physical activity I enjoyed was running. Competitive and team sports were never my thing. I haven't taken any interest in watching sports either and know practically nothing about them. It always seemed so trivial and pointless to me, despite the widespread popularity of football, basketball, baseball, and so on. What makes even less sense is why people shout at a TV during a game; I'm not exactly sure what the point of that is.

I'm curious if most other Atlasians (aka nerds) are similar or not.

Yes, I love sports.  Watching sports and having a favorite team that you "live or die" with is an incredibly fun and fulfilling hobby, and playing sports was one of the best experiences of my life.  Not trying to be corny, but the experiences and lessons learned that I had with teamwork through organized sports have legitimately helped me in life so far.  As for specifics, I played soccer, baseball and basketball growing up, but I only played soccer and baseball competitively (club/traveling sports).  I quit basketball after my eigthth grade year, in which I played for our junior high's B-team (which was really the C-team, as there was an "A-reserve" team, too, LOL).  I quit soccer during my freshman year of high school, as you really couldn't play both soccer and baseball at my high school, and I realized pretty quickly I would be the starting center fielder for baseball and likely be fighting it out for playing time in soccer; I also really enjoyed baseball more.  As for watching, I'm a very, very avid Chicago Cubs and Illinois Fighting Illini fan, and a less avid Chicago Bears and Chicago Bulls fan.  I also follow Borussia Dortmund, but I get to watch fewer games simply because of logistics.  When international soccer is on, I love watching it and get really into the games when the US is playing.  Once they lose, I pull for Germany and (less often) Sweden because muh ancestry.

To recap, sports are awesome, and I'd say I stray from nerd orthodoxy (not that I'd describe myself as a nerd, really) by caring WAY more about sports than politics.

Yes, and there is arguably nothing more important in life. Winning (an American championship) is the only thing that matters the world over. There are few things as beloved as football and the men who know how to win at it.

Yes and yes. Incredibly passionate fan for the Cubs, Bears, Blackhawks and Bulls, University of Illinois and University of Michigan, the Miami Dolphins, and I casually get excited about some other teams as well. I played basketball in high school, and I have done a lot of competitive sailing in my days, but if I could do it all again I would do even more sports. I also wish I still did more sports today. I'm trying to pick up golf as well.

Winning and losing might not change your life very much, but I think you can become a much stronger person and teach you things that will help you in all aspects of life.

Yes, I watch sports and was a Cubs and Cavs and Packers fan. However, since moving to the Sunbelt like CA, I am a Raiders, Dubs and Dodgers fan.

I follow the Eastern conferences of MLB but that's about it (filthy casual, normal).

I don't begrudge anyone their hobbies but I never understood the idea of rooting for a team as if I had a stake in its success - as Hunter S. Thompson put it, it's like having a favorite oil company.

Die-hard Devon Energy fan checking in tbh (though Marathon is p awesome too)

Nope, I only do sports like running or swimming for health. Otherwise, watching sports bores me and I despise playing ball games.

I live on the East Coast, baseball is the only sport I like very much, and following it isn't one of my main hobbies. What's so wrong with that?

I used to think the Evil Trio was all there was, and they are bad to watch. I don't want to play any of them, for that matter.

I have discovered I am surprisingly fast since I started playing soccer on a team last fall. It is really fun, and I am rather good at it. I don't think I like to watch it, though.

Yes, mostly soccer. I don't yell at the TV as much as talk to it. And the playing is not as regular these days sadly.

I'll watch the Cardinals (of baseball), the Steelers or the Blues if they are on TV, but that rarely happens so I pretty much only pay attention during the playoffs anymore.

I'd like to play more basketball, but I have nobody to play with Sad

Perhaps the fact that the MLB does not have an "Eastern Conference"? Tongue

I am deeply passionate about my support for the St. Louis Cardinals, St. Louis Blues, Pittsburgh Steelers, Arsenal, Illini, USMNT/USWNT, USA Hockey, USA Baseball, and Mizzou. I also support the Chicago Bears, Pittsburgh Penguins, and Bayern Munich as well.

Only the world cup with any serious interest, and some other soccer matches occasionally.

Mostly college football and college basketball, but I'll follow the NFL (mostly for fantasy reasons) and NHL when their seasons are going. Yes on yelling at the TV.
