For whatever it's worth, I think Warren is right on tapping into the angry populist ire of the electorate. The cultural and economic forces that have produced an angry populace are definitely not gonna go away by 2020, and in fact are likely to exacerbate the underlying angry, populist sentiments.

-The nativists will still be angry about the country getting less white. This isn't going away. They'll likely still be angry over Trump not being draconian enough on immigration, so this is unlikely to go away.
-Income and wealthy inequality will likely increase if 4 decades of history stays constant. Trump's policies will worsen this if anything.
-Conspriacy theorists will still be strong. The fact that Trump won doesn't seem to have put a damper on their NWO/Illuminati spiel. So this won't go away.
-The improving social metrics among the youth (crime rates, teen pregnancy rates, abortion rates having all been in steady decline since he 90's along with graduation rates hitting record highs) hasn't convinced the religious culture warrior crowd that America's moral fabric is not in decline. So they will still be angry.
-Wall Street is doing incredibly well after they were bailed out by taxpayer money and this will likely still be the case in 2020. Tea party and occupy Democrats alike are both upset about this.
-The economic recovery under Obama saw the gains go almost exclusively to the top 10% of the income distribution.
-Trump infuriates the Democratic base daily.

Am I missing something? I don't see how the populace is ready for a "love" message pushed by Booker over the angry populist message that Warren (or anybody else for that matter) will be touting.

Please, please, please, please go down the Warren route and take as much of the WWC as possible. I really don't want Macron vs Le Pen to be the future of American politics.

I agree with both kinda they should run on Warren's message while being positive to contrast with Trump like Booker says. So I guess the liberal equivalent of "are you better off now then 4 years ago"

Ezra Pound and T.S Elliot are still fighting in the captain's tower.

I certainly hold no affinity for the man, but Roger Stone's observation that fear (or anger, or hate, etc.) is a better motivator than love is generally accurate for all but the most transcendent political figures (FDR, Robert Kennedy, Reagan, arguably Barack Obama). Cory Booker is not a transcendent politician. John Kasich tried it and failed, and Kasich is a much more skilled politician than Cory Booker.

In other words, score another point for Warren on this thread.

I will also add that this story includes yet another in the fantastic line of photos of Booker in which he looks worried.  Or perhaps he just looks like he needs to poop:

If Booker shows even the slightest hesitancy to attack Trump he'll stick out like a sore thumb on the debate stage. Especially when people start rolling out the clip of him defending Bain Capital in 2012.

I really don't understand why Booker said the whole bit about feeling as though calling Trump a liar is "condemning his soul." The only rationalization I can come up with is that Booker is devoutly religious and thinks that calling somebody out for lying (even when it's true) is basically telling them that they're gonna go to hell.

But I agree, if he doesn't attack Trump then he will stick out in a bad, bad way.

Booker has been talking about the politics of love for a long time now.  This is nothing new for him.  Last year he said that he loved Donald Trump (in the Christian "love everyone" sense, though also saying that the Trump family were "good people"):

Ftr, Cuomo seems more reluctant to attack Trump directly than Booker is:

This so something that I think will warm the hearts of 1/3 of the Democratic base, piss off the other 1/3, and leave the rest with a "wtf" sentiment.

Booker needs to remove his lips from Trump's ass. Nobody is buying this love conquers hate narrative. Get Trump the F out of there!

Guys, Booker and Obama both know and knew you can't be the angry black man. O/c the angry white woman is no better, but Warren isn't calculating enough to care. But notice how most people say she would be a poor candidate.

So? It doesn't change that in his mind, Booker knows he would have no chance as the angry black man.

What's your point about Warren being a poor candidate because women can't be angry? Does this automatically make Booker a better candidate because he doesn't act angry?

At the end of the day, the economic and cultural forces that have created a very angry populace isn't exclusive to the Republican Party. The Democratic base is also very upset wth the status quo. Combine that with their hatred for Trump and you can see why a message of "I love Trump." is never, ever going to play well with the Democratic base in a primary battle.

And as Obama showed in 2008, you can attack people ruthlessly as a black candidate without being overtly angry.
