I didn't quite like Bono's proposal (the reason is a mixture of personal opinion and technical deficiencies), so here's my own:

Amendment to the Southeast Constitution: Addition of a Bill of Rights.

The following shall be placed at the beginning of the Constitution and the current articles renumerated, accordingly:

Article I: Bill of Rights
We, the People of the Southeast, seeing that by the grace of God we are a free people, claim the following rights for ourselves and posterity:

1. The Right of every citizen to vote, unless their right to vote is suspended because of criminal activity.

2. The Right to self defense, and the right to own firearms, unmolested by the Government.

3. The Right to a republican government, elected by and accountable to the People.

4. The Right to act as our own legislative body.

5. The Right to recall any elected official.

6. The Right to worship the god of our choice, or not to worship at all without interference from the Government.

7. The Right to a fair trial when accused of a criminal act.

8. The Right to assemble peacefully in protest.

9. The Right to own, buy, and sell property.

Change #3 to a little "r" republican, and I approve, generally.

Okay, but might I ask why?  Does it have to do with the Republican party, because me and CheeseWhiz joked about that one (off the forum.)  Also, are you going to sign it?

Yes, if the R is capital, it refers to the party; if it is little r, it refers to the form of government. Just don't want any ambiguity.

You disagree with the right to own a gun and/or protect yourself?

Could we clarify #4 a bit -- does this create a Southern legislature?

What I was meaning by this is just what we've been doing all along, the citizen's propose and vote on Legislation (Initiatives,) instead of having an elected legislature.

Huh.  I thought that the Party was capitalized because that's how the form of Government was done.  Thanks for pointing that out, or else a nonexistent party would be the only one that was constitutional to elect WinkCheesy

Unless you prefer the governor be an elected dictator. Smiley

"Republican Party" (and "Democratic Party" for that matter) are capitalized because they are proper nouns. "republic" is a common noun, but "Republic of Atlasia" is a proper noun.

I liked both this one and Bono's but this one is shorter and easier to understand.

I don't disagree with #2 if firearms means guns. If we're talking explosives, I disagree. Either way, couldn't we find a better word than "unmolested?"

I just thought of something.  If this passes, will all the current articles of the Constitution be moved up one number, or do I need to put something into the amendment that says that.  I just didn't want to have any confusion, and I really think that a Bill of Rights belongs at the beginning of the Constitution.

… couldn't we find a better word than "unmolested?"

Hmm... I'll think about it.

It means guns.

A question from an uninformed outsider: doesn't the preamble undermine clause 6?

No, I don't believe so, but I also don't believe that placing a exhibit in a court building on how the Ten Commandments affected our laws, or having “under God” in the Pledge of Allegiance, is in violation of the First Amendment, either. That's something that the "separation of church and state" radicals don't seem to understand about that clause or the real life First Amendment. Neither one is supposed to restrict the Government from ever mentioning God, only from executing people who don't follow a state-sponsored religion.

Even though this may be interpreted as evangelical Religious Right fanaticism, I am simply a Christian and a Conservative.  I've also a bit sensitive about this issue since the Judge Moore thing, and all the incidents after 9/11 where some kids were reprimanded for wearing religious and military clothing.
