When Governor Ige's current term is completed in 2018, would you like to see him remain Hawaii's governor for another term, or would you like to see someone else become governor?

20% Ige
57% Someone else

Do you generally have a positive or negative opinion of Hawaii governor David Ige?

35% Positive
38% Negative

http://www.civilbeat.org/2017/06/civil-beat-poll-gov-david-ige-could-be-in-trouble-in-2018/

I wonder how vulnerable he could be in a Democratic primary?

His approval rating was 48-40 according to Morning Consult, so I guess a primary upset could be in the cards, but it seems unlikely.

Hawaii has a huge independent streak, just like Alaska at the state level. But, they are party loyalist when it comes to President.

What has Ige done (or not done) to make himself so unpopular?

If Ige decided not to run, who would run in his place? Hanabusa? Hirono?

Abercrombie pissed off waaaaaay too many people to make a comeback.

He'd also be 80, which is a bit prohibitive.

Hawaii seems to elect a lot of people who they don't like.

I would support Ed Case, Mufi Hanneman, Peter Carlisle, or Charles Djou against Ige.

I'd love to see Tulsi run, but I doubt she's interested. She seems to have her eye on the Senate a few years down the line.

Speaking of the Senate, Hirono is running for re-election next year, but has state 4 kidney cancer.  I'm guessing no one wants to be seen as challenging her, but are keeping their eye on that race.

You'd have a better chance of Donald Trump moving to Hawaii and getting elected governor.

Better question: why does Hawaii get so easily pissed off at its governors?

We do, too. It's easy to blame everything bad in the state on the Governor. We don't get so pissed that we primary them, though.
