In 2016, every state voted to elect a Senator that was the same party as the candidate the state voted for in the Presidential election. This is the first time this has ever happened yet doesn't really get talked about that often.

Which is why I'm wondering if, eventually, will the composition of the Senate directly mirror the electoral map of a Presidential election? If so, when will it happen and what would the map look like?

Here's the current Senate composition map (for simplicity's sake, Bernie Sanders and Angus King are treated as Democrats) with green representing 1 Dem and 1 GOP:

Here are the competetive races in Senate in 2020 and these reflect the presidential race as well

ME, Iowa, NC, VA, NH, MI and NC are bellweathers in Senate and Prez.
